NetDrive alternative??

Unread post by jodyberry » Tue Jan 20, 2015 6:45 pm

Hi all,

I've been using net drive free and recently they went to a paid-only plan. Are there any other free alternatives to Netdrive that use Webdav and work well?

Thanks!

Bill

Full-functional Webdrive is free only for limited time. I'm looking for free application.

I am not aware of a complete free tool. NetDrive is free for 1 connection as far as I know.

You may try to map shares using Windows Explorer as described here. It has never worked so far, but now with Windows 10 and DSM 6 I could connect.

Thanks for advice. As I understand, DDNS provider must have https access which synology.me doesn't have. Did I get it right?
Because I'm trying to connect with standard synology.me domain but I get stuck with authorization, it doesn't recognize username and password.

Duško

HTTPS is supported and you can even get a Let's Encrypt cert for your synology.me DDNS hostname.
If you need technical support please use this form: https://account.synology.com/support/support_form.php

It took me some time to figure it out... almost purchased a copy of NetDrive2 but here is the solution.

To enable Basic authentication on the client computer, follow these steps:1.In Windows Vista or Windows 7, click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.

Apps in the Menu bar, type regedit in the Search box, and then press Enter.

2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. (unless it already exists)
4. Type BasicAuthLevel, and then press Enter.
5. Right-click BasicAuthLevel, and then click Modify.
6 .In the Value data box, type 2, and then click OK.

Note The mapping is as follows:
0 - Basic authentication disabled
1 - Basic authentication enabled for SSL connections only
2 - Basic authentication enabled for SSL and non-SSL connections
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

In my experience, Netdrive is superior! Webdrive works but are having issues here and there (I've tried several versions).
Netdrive is the fastest one, no doubt!

There's zero context given for this. Could you explain 1) Why you'd need this and 2) What it accomplishes?
I would guess that this is to authenticate over HTTP which seems like a bad idea as your creds would be available in plaintext.

Tested in Windows 10-
I followed the instructions here for HTTPS without issues: https://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopi ... 29#p434514
Just make sure you have install WebDAV Server in DSM, port 5006 is open, that you have a working Let's Encrypt cert on the NAS, and then make sure that the cert is assigned to WebDAV in Security->Certifications->Configure

This worked with me.
:-)

Enabling the:
2 - Basic authentication enabled for SSL and non-SSL connections
solved the login/password issue.

Nice!!!

Thanks

Hi Dustin,

I read a post where you informed that was possible to configure WIndows to connect to WebDAV server automatically without asking for authentication after the first access.

I am struglying here to make that work either with Windows 7 or 10. I need to access WebDAV from WAN.

Please could you confirm what you did to have that working? The post you mentioned below is not available anymore.

Thanks,

Felipe

Ho trovato molte risposte quì:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compariso ... V_software

Leggi tra le righe e trovi quello che serve.
Consiglio Raidrive. Sempre per uso non professionale. Se è per lavoro, Netdrive a pagamento è ottimo.
