Firmware 428 - Should I install ???

Postby Alpinestar » Wed Feb 07, 2007 1:40 pm

Hi all

Just noticed that 428 firmware is up on the download page (thanks to Harry Potter). However the description is all bug fixes from 426 ?????

Would be nice to have the list of bug fixes or do we have to send hours searching in this forum for problems that some users have reported.

By the way, these forums made me purchase the DS106e over QNAP. I'm extremely happy with it, just want some info on 428 !!!!

Are you having trouble with bugs in your current firmware? If you don't have any problems with the firmware you are running, I wouldn't try to fix it. ;)

I think the description pretty much sums it up; 248 fixes bugs found in 426. I am not trying to tell you what you should do. All I am saying is that if my system was stable at 426, I don't think I would bother. :)

I left my update to 428 for the raining day. My fw426 is stable and is running fine. I will only upgrade to 428 when problem occur. For now no upgrade for me.

I was pleasantly surprised with the speed of the 428 FW - previously had 424 running. The 428 seems just more responsive - when using as fileserver, but mainly using the admin interface over http (photostation as well as "normal")

I think if you have problem with 426 then an upgrade could be the answer. For some reason my DS106E wouldn't power down but it seems fixed and a bit more responsive also.

I cannot recommend an upgrade to FW 428.

Ever since I upgraded to FW428, my DS106e has been down for several reasons. One disk has become nonusable. The FTP server crashes the system, the shared folders becomes inaccesable after downloading gigs of data. The internal webserver goes down, and the system becomes all-in-all inaccesable. Only way to shutdown the system is by pulling the plug!!!

Right now, I am waiting for support from the engineering team. Problem is shipped.

So, please hold your horses!

The same for me with DS101J, Device become unaccessible after some time. Had to set it up again, but after a few days the system crashed again. It semms that there is a big bug in this Version generally, independent of the Hardware!

@mj88

I'm quite surprised to hear of all the problems you are having. I personally have seen a slight improvement in performance with the 428 upgrade. Hope you get it sorted
