Disk Space Usage

Unread post by qwerty_ca » Sat Apr 06, 2013 10:44 pm

Hi everyone

This is probably a very noob question, but how do you check the disk space usage on a Synology DS110j? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

All I want to know is how much of my disk space is free and if possible, which folders (even those not visible to me via Windows Explorer) are taking up how much space.

Thanks!

In Storage Manager or System Information

See help
Some people spent a lot of time writing the Help files, use it!
Do not expect serious answers if it can be found by searching for it yourself.

Oh, and with File Station, right click - properties will tell you the size of any folder

Oh wow, I didn't even notice the menu on the top left, so didn't even realize there was such a thing as a storage manager. I was looking for things inside the control panel the whole time.

/facepalm

Methinks Synology should rework their UI to be more iOS like...

But anyway, thanks for the answers, they were very helpful!

I just found this post using a Google search.

I'm also trying to track down disk usage to the folder level.
I've looked at Storage Manager, and I can't find such a feature. It only seems to provide disk status and summary status information. The "help" files also don't help.
Unless I've missed something...

[Edit] I've seen two features: Storage Manager and Storage Analyser. Storage Analyser also doesn't seem to have anything.

In the end, I did it my mapping the Synology's individual top-level folders to network drives, viewable in Windows Explorer.
I was then able to use WinDirStat to analyse these individual Windows partitions.

{snip happens}
Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but using DSM File Station will give you info like:
"Size: 319.27 GB (342,812,851,198 Bytes). Contains 166 file(s), 83 folder(s)"
If you right click on the respective folder and choose 'Properties'.

That's true but hardly ideal when you have 30+ folders and need to see which ones to clear up space in. It would be nice if Synology had a simple way to see the space used in each folder in one window.

The Storage Analyser is good. The 'reports' are quite interactive.
