No access to the FTP server via Internet Explorer

Unread post by SpeedsterB » Thu Feb 16, 2012 4:41 pm

Hi,

Maybe a silly question...
I've set up the FTP server in DSM 3.2 and forwarded port 21 and the default passive port range to the Diskstation IP.

However, I don't seem to have access using Internet Explorer (after entering username and password I get a "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"-message) or Windows Explorer (after entering username and password I get an error message telling me to make sure I have access to the folder. "Details: 200 Type set to A; 227 Entering Passive mode (192,168,178,10, 216, 249)").

Here are the strange things:
  • Using the same Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer I have access to the FTP diskstation from a friend
From other computers I don't have FTP access either to my own FTP server
I do have access to my FTP server using Chrome, Firefox and Filezilla
It feels like i have a setting wrong somewhere. Does anybody have some pointers on this?

Cheers

Just tried it from my private network. Gives my no problems there: I can access over FTP using Internet Explorer en Windows Explorer.

Seems to be a WAN only issue...

Thx.

Try setting the check box "Report external IP in PASV mode" in the FTP setup in control panel.

Bingo! That was the trick! FTP is accessible now through both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.

I still find it strange that this setting only had an impact on Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer and that Chrome, Firefox and Filezilla were doing just fine...

Thx again!
