I guess all this problems with Windows Backup, Photoshop ad Acronis True Image will be solved using the same samba patch and I hope Synology is going to officialy publish it for all models.

Same for me here, I confirm the provided patch (samba-10-09-29-853x.pat) is correcting that annoying win image backup bug.

Looking forward to see this in an upcoming updated DSM version

Many thanks to Synology who took care of this really quickly.

Please do not share the patch file, because there is a different file available depending on the processor of your model.

Be patient and wait for Synology to answer you.

Now I also received the Samba patch from Synology support and it also solved my problems with Acronis backup. Lets hope Synology release a new official DSM 3.0 version with the fix.

Hi all,
Just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth as well. Same/similar issues happening here. Win 7 scheduled backup that had worked flawlessly prior to the upgrade tp DSM 3.0 1337 now fails with error 0x80070005 - 'Access is denied'

OS - Win7 Ultimate 64bit
NAS - Syno DS409+ (with DSM3.0 1337)
Model No: DS412+ ; Firmware Ver: DSM 4.3-3810
HDDs: SEAGATE ST2000DM001 x 4; RAID Type: 5
Network Bandwidth/MTU: 1Gbps/9000

Me too, with a DiskStation 110j and Windows 7 64-bit - "access denied" for any backup application.

Acronis True Image Home 2011 fails instantly with "Access to the file is denied."
Windows 7 backup gets partway through, then fails on the "MediaID" file with "Access denied" likewise.

And I thought I was simplifying my home backup process by buying a DiskStation to replace multiple USB drives! If only I hadn't upgraded it right away to DSM 3.0, I might be OK.

Not a way to endear themselves to a brand new customer. I've filed a support ticket and am hoping that there may already be a patch, as some of the posts here have suggested.

Windows 7 Backup Fails After Update

Unread post by GHammer » Tue Oct 05, 2010 7:44 am

I have been backing up 2 machines to my Synology DS-110j for a few months with no problem.
After updating to DSM 3.0-1337 both machines fail.
The error given is Access denied.
I can write to and delete from the share and all sub folders.
I have removed the share, restarted, added a new share with the same name.
Still get the same results.

The backup operation to \\DISKSTATION\Users\Backups is starting.
