Hello,

I have several raspberry PI's running with NFSroot shares from the nas, this way you can use the build in apps from the nas to do backups. It also avoids wear and tear of the SD card of the PI's.
DS-218+ (10GB) | DSM 6.2-23739-2 | 1 x WD20EFRX (Basic-btrfs) (Hyper backup vault, DS, Docker, Tvheadend)
DS-916+ (8GB) | DSM 6.2-23739-2 | 2 x WD40EFRX (RAID1-btrfs) | 2 x WD10EFRX (RAID1-btrfs) (AS, Calendar, Chat, CMS, Docker, Hyper backup, PS, Snapshot Replication, SVN, VS, WS, Webdav)
  • Startech S3510SMU33 | WD20EFRX (ext-4)
DS-213J | DSM 6.2-23739 | 1 x WD20EFRX (Basic-ext4) (Hyper backup vault)
DS-209 | DSM 6.2-23739-2

Corruption wears infinite disguises.

I basically followed this guide.
  • Follow steps 1 through 4
  • For steps 6 and 7, create a share on your diskstation and make it available for the raspberry IP via NFS
SSH to the diskstation and check the file /etc/exports, it should look like this

    Code: Select all

    IP_raspberry(rw,async,no_wdelay,crossmnt,insecure,no_root_squash,sec=sys,anonuid=1025,anongid=100)
SSH to the raspberry and perform the following commands:

    Code: Select all

    sudo /etc/init.d/rpcbind start
    sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-common start
    sudo mount ip_diskstation:/volume1/nfsShare /mnt

where volume1 and nfsShare must be changed to your configuration and created share. If you copy it from the raspberry you will immediately notice if your NFS share is working.
  • For step 8: this could also be performed directly on your raspberry

    Code: Select all

    sudo nano /boot/cmdline.txt
My line after modification looks like this:

    Code: Select all

    dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=serial0,115200 console=tty1 root=/dev/nfs rootfstype=nfs elevator=deadline fsck.repair=yes noatime quiet rootwait nfsroot=IP_diskstation:/volume1/nfsShare,udp,vers=3 rw smsc95xx.turbo_mode=N ip=dhcp
  • Follow the remaining steps and enjoy :D
Depending on the capabilities of your diskstation you could use hyperbackup and/or snapshot replication to backup the share.

Best regards
