I have a DS212j which I haven’t used for a few years. I note it is running DSM 4.2. It will be used simply to stream music to my Sonos system. Would I be wise to upgrade the DSM? I appreciate from reading the through the forum that this must be done in stages but I can only find a link to DSM 6.Where will I find older versions should I need to upgrade

Personally I wouldn't advise upgrading that model over 4.3. Anything over version 5 or 6 will create a solid performance hit. If you can stay on your current version or upgrade to max 4.3 (if your Sonos system can work with your NAS in that configuration).

All version here here: https://usdl.synology.com/download/DSM/release/

Keep in mind also that downgrading DSM is not officially supported. There is a way to do it (search the forum), but it will ask some SSH/telnet and linux editing.
