I just tested it briefely by installing the dns server on my second nas. I created two slavezones "local" and "null.zone.file". Both zones are pressent on my first nas.

My second nas is on IP 10.0.1.45. I first tested the "local" zone.

Code: Select all

$ host nas.local 10.0.1.45
Using domain server:
Name: 10.0.1.45
Address: 10.0.1.45#53
Aliases:

nas.local has address 10.0.1.30
nas.local has IPv6 address fe80::211:32ff:fe3a:ecd
That works as expected. I get the IP adres of 'nas.local' as defined in my primary dns server. Than I tried "119ye.com", which is in the null.zone.file.

Code: Select all

$ host 119ye.com 10.0.1.45
Using domain server:
Name: 10.0.1.45
Address: 10.0.1.45#53
Aliases:

Host 119ye.com not found: 5(REFUSED)
I get a refused as result. Meaning it is not found in the primary nas. It is clear that the null.zone.file is not used when requesting a domain that differs from the name of the slavezone. And I hadn't configured the second nas to look at an external DNS server.

I have tested it an I get the same results as you. So I guess it is not possible to set it up as an slave zone. Pitty that it doesn’t work
