Thank you

The trash is empty. The storage management utility shows that ALL is normal. There is no warning.

I'm afraid I'll have to ask for technical assistance from Synology. That implies that they must enter my NAS with authorization. What should I do to authorize them? Thank you

I'd say; Install Storage Analyzer and have it generate a report. I always resort to this app whenever I am wondering where the heck all my storage space has gone.

Okay, I'm completely confused now... There's almost NOTHING anymore on my NAS, the volume1 reports 3TB being used via SSH but DSM still says almost 14TB...

I am using the latest Beta for my DS916+ but that shouldn't bring such a weird problem up. At least I don't think so...

The result is normal. I see the list of folders and their contents. But the total occupied capacity is 100%. How can I attach the screenshot here so you can see it?

Unfortunately there is no upload functionality on this forum. I always just put the image on my personal website and then embed the file location inside the [ img ] tags. So if you want to share the image in here, you'll need to upload it somewhere else and then put the link in here inside the img tags. Sorry. :?

I have verified that the widget on the right side of the screen shows that the content of the disk is 7.21 TB (and 3.3 GB free). However, the page that shows the contents of all the discs says that the content of this disc is 5.3 TB. There is a clear discrepancy of the O.S. of Synology, because both data do not match. And they must coincide. What comes to your mind? Thank you very much for trying to help me. I appreciate it a lot.

With the current info I don't really have an idea. :(

You only told us that you have a 8 TB drive dedicated to movies and a DS415play unit. The 415 can hold 4 drives. Do you have any other installed? Is the 8 TB in a volume all by itself, no redundancy? What is the complete setup of your disks exactly?

I am running a DS2415+ with the BTRFS file system. I recently discovered that my NAS has used 8TB of space for something unknown. Storage analyzer is reporting that I have used 58.5TB, but my shared folder is using 50TB. Where did the 8TB of space go? I know BTRFS itself will use around 3TB (4%) for overhead on a 73TB volume, but that still doesn't account for the other 5TB used. I have emptied all recycle bins and I am not using CloudStation. Any ideas on how I can discover where my space went and how I might be able to reclaim it?

Edit: So I ran "btrfs fi df" from the root through SSH and it returned this:

Label: '2017.04.29-14:52:16 v15047' uuid: 88a3e4ba-fb4f-428c-a1f3-cf675609172b
Total devices 1 FS bytes used 55.40TiB
devid 1 size 76.36TiB used 60.63TiB path /dev/mapper/vg1001-lv

I see that the usage is mismatched. So I ran 'btrfs balance start -dusage=72 /volume2 &' to start the re-balance of the file system chunks. I chose a dusage of 72 based on the fact that the system is really 72% full (55.4/76.4). It looks like it is going to take awhile with such a large volume, but DSM is slowly starting to show my available space is growing. A step in the right direction for sure. I'll report back when the balance completes.

I can't take any credit for the above aside from figuring out how to make it work on my system directly. Here is the link I referenced: http://marc.merlins.org/perso/btrfs/pos ... blems.html

Edit: Well, not the magic bullet I had hoped for. Got back about 300GB, but that’s a far cry from the 5TB missing. Guess the mystery continues.

I'm also having this issue!

I have a DS3617xs with with 12 4tb drives in raid 5 one volume (volume1) and can account file wise for around 20tb of my reported 37tb used!!

Majority of my apps are Dockerised
I have removed CloudStation
I have removed Snapshot Replication
I have emptied all recycle bins
I have pulled out some of my hair.

I am currently generating my first even storage analyser report and waiting for the command "du -sk /volume1/* |sort -gr" to finish.

Any help or insight from Synology would be extremely appreciated!

i spent the last month trying to backup my nas to another offsite synology..

My journey started with Hyperbackup and quickly finished when multiple times the backup went corrupted god knows why... i cannot trust it anymore. Evrything seems good until you do an integrity check..

Then i moved to Share Folder Sync so i can set night time frames for backup as Hyperbackup, it worked but then realized i really need a backup more then a sync offsite...

So i went for Cloud Station ShareSync with Task Scheduler for night backups:
it was a pain initially because of the speed (days to sync 1Tb on LAN),
then i set manually MTU parameters and finally it finished quickly..
But then i realized it eaten 1Tb of space out of 1Tb of backup..

I uninstalled Cloud Station Server and had back my space.

Now i installed it again and keep versioning set to 1 and my recycle bins are disabled
but immediately after the installation it starts again to eat up space even if i not modified any files!!
It seems it take a copy of everything to keep a original version of every file.. ?!?!?

I'm givin up..
Anyone have find a solution?
Otherwise I'm thinking to try Sync by Resilio.. anyone is using it?

Disk usage increased after using Moments but not decreased after Uninstalling

Unread post by defc0n1 » Fri Jun 01, 2018 6:44 pm

Hello. I recently started using Moments for organizing my photo collection but my disk usage almost doubled after using Moments. My disk usage before using moments was around 900GB and when I added my photos and videos to moments, it increased to 1.7TG. I uninstalled Moments and checked on "delete Moments database" but my disk usage still shows 1.7GB. I also deleted all Drive Versions using Clear Version Database on Drive Admin Console but I still cannot claim the disk space. I also tried Data Scrubbing without any change on disk usage. Is there any way I can manually empty Moments hidden thumbnail folders and hidden converted videos? :? :?:

Edit: I manage to resolve my problem by uninstalling Drive. I reinstalled Drive and everything is in order. It appears there was a bug with Drive database that could not be deleted.

Edit 2: When Drive finished indexing my disk usage increased again to 1.7TB. What is this?!?

Used Space Reported - Difference in FE & SM Why?

Unread post by Qualyelerbel » Sun Jun 03, 2018 10:21 pm

Hi, What is reported in File Explorer and Storage Manager are different. My first thought is that there are multiple versions of of my stored data. At the moment, I cannot see the total used by this additional backup data, to confirm this. I want to ensure that there is no data hidden which I don't need that is using up all the extra space.

So, how can I confirm that the difference between these two applications is valid? How can I see what is making up the versions of files in total space? Is there a report for this? I don't see anything that lends itself to this.

FE reports 7TB of space used when I add up all the folders usage in Properties
SM reports 13.6TB of space used when I look in Storage Manager application.

NAS used size much larger than files on laptop

Unread post by Nigelj » Thu Jun 07, 2018 1:43 pm

This may be a basic question, but I'm stumped!...

I'm using a DS218j to backup/sync certain folders from my laptop. I have Drive installed and working.

I noticed last night that the used size on the NAS is 343gb, but the total volume of the same files/folders on my laptop is only 190gb. I've checked and re-checked that I haven't copied some data twice (I haven't), but I do see the files and folders in home>Drive are the same as homes>Nige>Drive. I assume these are the same? All my music and photos are in the music and photo folders, not within Drive, so they aren't duplicated

Can anyone spot the [obvious!] daft thing I've done that would account for the 153gb difference?

defc0n1,

I'm having a similar problem... thinking i found the solution but when re-installing/enabling drive it re-indexes and seems to create a database stored at /@synologydrive/ hidden folder. I manually deleted that folder via SSH and saw my space recovered, only to see it fill right back up once turning drive back on. I have been going back and forth with support to try and figure it out as it seems the space for drive is getting duplicated between

/home/username/drive
and
/@synologydrive/

I'll post up once I figure it out.
