Initial parity check - ETA several weeks?

Unread post by ozgadgetguy » Wed Mar 21, 2018 12:08 am

I set up a new DS1817+ with 8 x 8TB drives yesterday. After 18 hours I'm only at 1% complete so this is likely to take ~100 days at this rate.

Is this normal? Is the process linear or can I expect it to get faster as it proceeds?

Not normal - you may have a bad drive that's slowing the process down. Are you trying to use the unit or is it only working on creating the array?

Okay my mistake. I was looking at the "Volume" widget which has a big "1%" displayed and text next to it saying its doing a parity check.

Turns out that is the drive usage percent not the parity check percent.

I looked at the volume status and its now at 36% which is much more reasonable.

Ok, that sounds much more like it.
