[solved] Syno 1511+ and eSata external twin drive

Postby temperdu » Wed Nov 01, 2017 10:27 am

I own a 1511+ with USB2 but eSata. So I'd like to plug an external hard drive in the eSata port (performance).

My external HD enclosure welcomes 2 drives. It is a ICY BOX IB-RD3662U3S (http://www.raidsonic.de/products/external_cases/soho_raid/index_en.php?we_objectID=1007).

I don't put critical data here (TV series) and I use the enclosure with older hard-drives. I don't use RAID or JBOD because I don't want to loose all my data in case of failure of one (already old) disk. So I use the "single" mode to get 2 distinct separate volumes.

Problem is : the Syno does only recognise one drive while Windows can see both (in USB). I tried both drive in both places (4 possibilities) with exFat. I also tried with NTFS.

What would be your recommendation ? Is there a partition utility in a Syno repo that would help me to see both disks and set them up within the Syno system ?

No! The issue is hardware related (eSATA Port Multiplier). What's more, there could be some DSM blocking inteniously made by Synology in order to populate their own DX- Expansion units (https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledg ... sion_Units).

Thanks for the quick answer.

Too bad... ;( So I'll make a JBOD/BIG volume.
