DS216J External HDD

Unread post by TopGunSF » Sat May 27, 2017 5:34 am

I have a DS216J with an attached USB3 8Tb HD (WDBBGB0080HBK-NESN). The DS hibernates just fine, timer is set for 20 minutes and, assuming there's no access, it goes to sleep after 20 minutes.

The timer for the USB external is set to 10 minutes both in firmware (with the WD tool) and on the Synology box, but it never sleeps when attached to the DS - even with the DS itself is hibernating. If I attach it to my Windows PC, it sleeps after 10 minutes of no access.

Any idea how to put this thing to bed? I use it for a weekly backup-backup, so I really don't need it spinning all the time.

EDIT: I'm not certain - but it does sound like the drive is being accessed regularly while the DS is asleep. If I eject the drive, it does sleep after 10 minutes - however ejecting the drive and not unplugging it causes the DS to hang when shutting down until the drive is unplugged.
