How to set up 2 disks, non raid?

Unread post by Dweeze » Thu Jul 12, 2018 10:49 am

I have two Synology servers (216play & 218play). Each cabinet contains one 4TB & one 3TB disk (total of 7TB per server).

1. I want to run both in non raid mode (which gives me a total storage of 7TB per server). How do I set this up?

2. I also want to make my second server, B, a mirror for the files of server A. I don´t want to use Hyper Backup as it creates two versions of each file (1 is the lowest value to set, which gives leaves me with two backup files at least).
I also don´t want to backup all my 7TB each time, only the changed files should be backed. What program should I use?

1) RAID0 or JBOD or 2 independent basic volumes
2) inform you about HyperBackup. Nothing you wrote is true.

HB can do classic rsync backup. Use that to backup only deltas after your initial backup. Works just fine.

Ok, thanx for your answers. Couldnt find that option in HB, but great that it´s there. Anyway manged to create independent disks and I´m now using two shared folders (one on each disk) which I rsync (built in) to transfer the files to the two destination disks . Seems to work like I wanted it to.

The option you are looking for in HyperBackup is called "Local folder & USB (single-version)" when creating a backup task. This will only mirror the files, keeping a single version of the file (essentially rsync).
