DS716+II bricked on update....

Hi,

this morning i was doing things on my DSM and saw a notification for an update. i launched it. curiously, the big 0% update screen stayed on and on and on forever without doing a thing and went back on the DSM desktop. then i got several issues as not possible to erase something, and processes getting slow and stucked and i had to power off the thing... thing is the damn thing is now bricked: when powering on i have all the boot process ending with a orange blinking status led.

no alert on raid array, so i supposed it is for DSM not installed. thing is i tried to launch synology assistant, and nothing... i tried to access DSM web, nothing...

i tried booting without hard drive connected... same...

please, save meeee...

I probably would do the 30 seconds reset and do a full reinstallation of the DS. Download the firmware in advance from the synology site, as well as synology assistant.
Hope you have a recent export from the settings. Your data should be ok, but no guarantee.
Please share if a reply was useful or how the issue was solved, it helps other DS users.

hi,

30 second reset? in the manual i saw only 2 kind of reset, the one reinstalling DSM was:

hold reset button 4 sec bip release button
during next 10 sec :
hold reset button 4 sec bip release button

status let flashing orange (well in my case no change)

go to synology assistant and reinstall dsm

so what am i doing wrong?

If the DSM isnt installed correctly anymore, then the reset button doesnt do anything, its function is part of the DSM.

You need Synology Assistant (or find.synology.com) to detect your device, with or without disks. Try on another computer for example.

already tried multiple things from multiple computers. i never see DS in synology assistant. i think the DSM on my unit is corrupt, that’s why i used the term « bricked »

i also troed to contact synology through contact form several times, but it never send, just display « processing «

Somehow i’m can’t even contact support via contact form... i end up with infinite « processing » message and nothings happen.

yes, i end up with « processing » when i hit send button, but it stay on that indefinitely. i tried from computer, from phone, multiple browser. same issue. can’t get ahold of technical staff. so i’m stuck with a bricked DS for a few days it seems

Maybe you have script blocker, DNS filter, Adguard, or similar affecting your browser?. Maybe run browser with all extension/addons disabled, or try alternate browser (Pale Moon protable, for example). Otherwise IDK.
