Hi,
I recently got a new MBP (late 2013, OSX 10.9), and could not load my DS412+ shares in any way. The old MBP (2007, OSX 10.8) worked fine. On the new MBP, I could see the DiskStation and load the browser page, but that was it.
Then I learned about switching off SMB2. Thank you, David Fu!
Once I had SMB switched off, both SMB and AFP connections worked.
I then proceeded to establish a TimeMachine volume, but could not get this displayed in the volume dialog of the TimeMachine control panel. So I read in the support forums about this (by now very well known) issue. I did not find it before because I did not search for SMB or SMB2.
And now comes the interesting part. Users who had before (under 10.8) established a connection could switch SMB2 on and connect via AFP (but *not* via SMB2!) under 10.9. Note that I could not connect any way when SMB2 was enabled. But as soon as I had the AFP connection established once with SMB2 disabled, I could re-enable SMB2 and *still* connect via AFP. And once I had this established (SMB2 on, connection via AFP), TimeMachine displayed all Synology volumes and I could start the backup function.
Funny, isn't it? If that is not a bug, what is?
