Connection issues from a Mac

Postby noshocks » Fri Oct 02, 2015 12:30 pm

In recent weeks I have started to have problems connecting to my DiskStation with my Mac. Two issues:

1. When I attempt to access my DiskStation under the Shared section in Finder, it sometimes connects automatically and sometimes it doesn't and shows the message Connection Failed. It seems to be hit or miss and I can't figure out why.

2. I have also noticed when I look at the Connected Users panel in DSM that I am getting a ton of connected user listing for the same user (me!). Does this suggest a configuration problem?

I have googled these issues and this forum for help but have not been able to find anything to shed light on these problems. Your help would be appreciated.

Try this, it worked for me... at least for now.

Go to system preference and then go to Sharing. Select the File Sharing menu in the left side vertical bar, then go in option and uncheck the Share files and folders using SMBand leave the Share files and folders using AFP checked.

Glad it's working! Mine actually disconnected again after that change. If this happens to you, here's another option that seems to have been working for me more permanently:

- Go to System Preferences
- Go to Network
- Remove the network that is connecting you (hit the "-" at the bottom of the screen)
- Rebuild that connection by clicking the "+" at the booth of the screen

Good luck!, we'll figure this out.

Experiencing the same issues. My 212j will not stay connected to my mac after the El Capitan update.

I've tried both solutions in this thread and still having issues. Is there a specific order I should do things? I've also restarted my syno.

Is there anything else I can try?

It was (hope so) finally fixed in 10.11.2
All previous recommendations has a temporary effect and doesn't solve the problem.
Obviously it was a problem in Finder or Network sharing layer.
Shame on you, Apple! You was my last hope in the world of unstable computers and operating systems :(

Found a working fix: Connect through Finder's Go/Connect to server and enter the server's ip address instead of name, e.g. afp://192.168.1.10

So counter-intuitive. As the previous user posted, I've been having major challenges on transfer speeds between my MacBook Pro running El Capitan 10.11.5 and my DS214 over 802.11ac. Transfers were taking minutes instead of seconds, and imports via applications like Lightroom were unbearably slow.

I had been connecting with SMB3 and had fine performance with OS 10.10.x.

I just switch BACK to AFP (the protocol that Apple appears to be deprecating for the future) and lo and behold:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/c8ac35d641gij ... P.png?dl=0

Small file (1-2MB) writes have improved from 2.5MB/s to 15MB/s
Large file (1GB) writes have improved from 15MB/s to 35MB/s

My conclusion? Apple continues to care not a lick about network storage. And it only took me yet another 10 hours of life to determine it.
