CS406 2 HD failed after firmware upgrade to 462

Postby bverweire » Tue Oct 16, 2007 8:06 pm

Hello,

After browsing the forum, it seems to me like a lot of people have this same problem. I am awaiting response from Synology support myself. Hope the solution is ok.
A few questions :
- is it safe to upgrade my CS406 to the latest firmware of CS407 ?
- why is this problem not mentioned at the download section of this firmware
- does everyone get a different solution ? The solution is not mentioned anywhere in this forum (except for disabling hibernation, which did not help for me).
thanks for clarifying this

it's not possible because 406 et 407 have different hardware so you have to use CS406 dedicated firmware.
But if you want, you can download the beta firmware 515 for your 406 here

With firmware 5xx, people i know who have a 406 don't encounter crashing trouble so i guess it should fix your problem.

I'm pretty much in the same boat.
I have the CS 406e with 4 x 500GB Maxtor drives in Raid 5 using firmware 462.
Every so often(say once every week or two) one of the 4 drives (i'm sure now all of my drives have failed at one point or another). It seems to usually happen when it's under some load. I have taken each one of those drives every time and scanned them thoroughly to make sure that the drive was not at fault. They have always passed. Then I proceed to wiping the drive before placing it back into the CS-406e. I've already received a new power adapter from synology a while ago. To be honest, I'm really losing my faith and patience in this product.

padrinho-

Please upgrade to beta 515, this solves the dilemma you are describing. You may join the beta program via the link in my signature.

Should you elect to wait for the production firmware, please sign up for Synology eNews so you may receive an email when the production firmware is ready. Also, disable hibernation on your Cube Station, found under [Admin Menu] --> [System] --> [Power Management]

I've always had hibernation disabled since reading about others having hard drive crashes. I'll wait for the production firmware, but my confidence in it solving my issue seems grim from bverweire response from applying the beta.
