Windows 2016 backups failing writing to DS416

Postby mckaynz » Thu Jul 06, 2017 2:39 am

I have a Windows server 2016 system doing a backup to a DS416 NAS with the native Windows backup. eg WBadmin and i keep getting a failure when it appears to write the data.
The account i'm using is the same i use to browse the folders. It has Read/Write access. I can create / Rename files/Folders with no issues.

It is like the NAS does not like how WBADMIN is writing the data.
If i use an other system it works with out an issue.
If i backup an old 2008 server using the same way it appears to work.

Do these NAS's support the streaming backup from a server 2016 or even windows 10.

Any idea's / help here is welcome Be a pity to throw it away as it is not able to be used as a backup device.

Command line i'm using is below

wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:\\servername\NASBackups\WindowsBackups\XXXX -vssFull -include:d: -user:NASUSERp -password:NASPASSW0rd$

What error are you getting in your Event Viewer. I know in Server 2012 there was some issues around the System Partition not being created large enough in certain deployments, I had it happen with an HP Server using their Intelligent Provisioning.

I had to manually resize the partitions using Diskpart, and things started working correctly.
