Damn, and I thought it was the upgrade to DSM 6.0 RC that fixed it!

Time to check my Windows Updates...

Last "unofficial" response from Synology engineer, after in depth debugging, was that unfortunately they cannot fix it as Windows SMB client is itself partially broken.

Hi

with "they" you mean Synology technicians or Microsoft?

However, if this is true, what is the next step we can expect?
Thanks

I installed the latest Windows 10 Home update. My synology's current software version is DSM 5.2-5644 Update 5. I am still not able to see shares on Windows 10 laptop.

Hi folks,

its summer now, but network drives are still not visible.
Has anyone a real solution for this anoying stuff microsoft has created?
I liked w10 at beginning, but i realized now something serious has happend cause all my network drives are lost.
I have all updates installed, don't know which one solves for some of you....on my machine NO Synology nas is anylonger visible which is very annoying.

Don't know if my issue is the same you all had a few month ago, i had access just a couple of weeks ago but now (don't know when exact) win10 has forgotten how to find my Diskstation.
What have they done at microsoft, from extern i can access but definitly not in my LAN!? Its a shame for microsoft or do they want us all moving to theiry own $$cloud instead of a sneaky NAS?

by the way, its 1511 (build 10586.420) i have....

Ditto, both when using mapped network drives, and when using the "Network" feature to just manually browse. Works on both stable and insider preview
If you need technical support please use this form: https://account.synology.com/support/support_form.php
Synology does not consistently browse this forum for technical support, feature requests, or any other inquiries as it notes at the top of the page. Please use the proper channels when you need help from someone at Synology.

I had this issue also and it was fixed by Microsoft sometime ago, but after a recent update to 1511 (10586.494) it seems to have stopped working again.

Ironically, around the same time, DSM updated to DSM 6.0.1-7393 Update 2 and now I cannot see the NAS or any of my Raspberry Pi 2's showing in File Explorer under 'Network'.

The problem also exists on my Windows 7 Professional box, but it was the same way before, until Microsoft issued the update that fixed the issue.

I have revisited all of the previous fixes but so far nothing has had any impact, just like before.

I have rebooted everything, router, managed switch, NAS, PC's, Raspberry Pi's, iPads, iPods and all TV's, but no change.

The question is, are any of you you seeing the same or is it just me?

Andy M

I personally have not had any issues so far on Release channel build: 10586.494 neither on Insider Build 14393

Thanks for the reply.

That would seem to indicate that the issue is with my setup somehow, but how?

The only other change made at around the same time that I can think of is that I installed SeaTools for Windows.

I will try rolling back to a time before that was added and see if it makes a difference.

The only problem I see is that Windows 7 and another install of Windows 10 are also effected and I did not do anything to those systems but I still cannot see My NAS or RPi's under Network in File Explorer on any system.

What does:

Code: Select all

nbtstat -n
and

Code: Select all

nbtstat -r

show on those affected machines?

The ouptput from nbtstat -n:

Code: Select all

C:\Windows\system32>nbtstat -n

VMware Network Adapter VMnet1:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.221.1] Scope Id: []

                NetBIOS Local Name Table

       Name               Type         Status
    ---------------------------------------------
    RAMPAGE-V      <00>  UNIQUE      Registered
    WORKGROUP      <00>  GROUP       Registered
    RAMPAGE-V      <20>  UNIQUE      Registered

VMware Network Adapter VMnet8:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.11.1] Scope Id: []

                NetBIOS Local Name Table

       Name               Type         Status
    ---------------------------------------------
    RAMPAGE-V      <00>  UNIQUE      Registered
    WORKGROUP      <00>  GROUP       Registered
    RAMPAGE-V      <20>  UNIQUE      Registered

Optus:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.0.10] Scope Id: []

                NetBIOS Local Name Table

       Name               Type         Status
    ---------------------------------------------
    RAMPAGE-V      <00>  UNIQUE      Registered
    WORKGROUP      <00>  GROUP       Registered
    RAMPAGE-V      <20>  UNIQUE      Registered

Wi-Fi:
Node IpAddress: [0.0.0.0] Scope Id: []

    No names in cache

Local Area Connection* 5:
Node IpAddress: [0.0.0.0] Scope Id: []

    No names in cache

Local Area Connection* 2:
Node IpAddress: [0.0.0.0] Scope Id: []

    No names in cache

The results of nbtstat -r:

Code: Select all

C:\Windows\system32>nbtstat -r

NetBIOS Names Resolution and Registration Statistics
    ----------------------------------------------------

    Resolved By Broadcast     = 61
Resolved By Name Server   = 0

    Registered By Broadcast   = 11
Registered By Name Server = 0

    NetBIOS Names Resolved By Broadcast
---------------------------------------------
           BROTHER        <00>
           BROTHER        <00>
           BROTHER        <00>
           BROTHER        <00>
           BROTHER        <00>
           BROTHER        <00>
           BROTHER        <00>
           BROTHER        <00>

As you can see the only thing showing under NetBIOS is my wireless printer. It should show 2 or 3 RPi's and the NAS, but for some reason it doesn't.

If I run 'net view' it returns error 53 'path not found' but if I run 'net view 192.168.0.x' it will show all shares on that device.

I should note, that I have a wireless card built-in to the MB, but I don't have it connected to the LAN, I use Ethernet on this machine.

I will run the same tests on my other fresh install of Wind10 also and see what happens with it.

It is not the same issue (what we discussed in the beginning of this topic)

In that case nbtstat -n output was garbled and names unidentifiable, so it must be something else going on in your case as all names are readable in your output.
So something else must be wrong...and we will try to figure out exactly what :P

My first advice would be check Workgroup names on Synology and Computers, they should match (If you are not using AD)
