NAS invisible from File explorer

Postby Laclot » Fri Apr 21, 2017 8:10 am

Hello everybody,
My PC is running with Windows 10, my router is Proximus Bbox3 Technicolor and my Synology model DS214se.
At the time of upgrading my router from Bbox2 to Bbox3, I noticed that my NAS was no more detected by my File Explorer and from all Windows functionalites ( save as,…).
Is it a simple coincidence ? I wonder because in the past I already met this issue but it was only for some seconds/minutes. And I thought that it did not really matter, being only a Windows caprice or slow system update.
As first step, I checked my network status and there everything seems ok, as my DS214se is correctly reported in my network. Secondly, I connected a totally different PC running as well under Windows 10 and I reached the same result. NAS kept invisible.
The only investigation progress I made since then, is to notice that writing my NAS IP address in the explorer, let it appear with its arborescence !! But not under its usual server name, only under IP address.
Unfortunately, this does not resist to any explorer closing/opening and furthermore does not grant access to other Windows functionalities.
Does anybody have an idea on how to fix this issue ?
I thank you in advance for your comments.

Thanks for your answer :
File service settings are :
SMB : on
AFP : off
NFS : on
FTP : on
SFTP : on
TFTP : off
Rsync : off
SSDP : on
I hope that you understand what I am talking about, because my DSM is in french and I don't know if denominations are translated or not.

Apart from the encryption option that I have disabled everything else is the same. There might be a problem with broadcasting. There are several topics on the forum (older ones) that might have problems with smb3/windows10 version and communication from syno via smb3.

have a read and make sure to through it:

Ive got exactly the same problem also. Did you have any luck fixing it?

Windows 10 latest update plus rackstation DSM 6.1.1-15101 Update 1.

Not sure where the problem is but its the same over both my windows 10 PC's.

You may have an issue with your Master workgroup browser station
Within a workgroup, one member is defined as the master browser; it is usually the first powered workstation within the workgroup.

check this:
https://scottiestech.info/2009/02/14/ho ... workgroup/

A possible solution: "select" another Master Browser.
Set your Synology NAS as a possible candidate master browser (Control Panel>File Services>SMB>Advanced Settings> Select "Enable Local Master Browser")
Shut down the NAS and ALL workgroup's workstations
Start the NAS first and wait until it's up and ready
Then start your workstations the way you want.

That should fix your issue.
DS1817+ (6x WD60EFRX - SHR/BTRFS) - DSM 6.1
DS1815+ (6x WD60EFRX - SHR/BTRFS) - DSM 6.1
DS1815+ (6x WD60EFRX - SHR/BTRFS) - DSM 6.1

Thanks Flashkit. Your solution is exactly what I needed to make my Diskstation visible on my network again. I've been without it for almost a year, looking at all kinds of possibilities. This is the first one that actually worked. Kudos :D
