Falcon wanted to talk about the new bootstrap for DS-107+ / DS207+ / CS 407 / RS 407.
This new boostrap is designed for NAS running the Marvell arm5tejl processor
CS-407 | HD Model: 4x Samsung HD501LJ 500GB Raid5
DS-1513+ | HD Model: 2x Seagate LP 1.5 TB + 2x Seagate LP 2 TB

I'm looking for the smartctl utility to be able to view SMART status of my harddrives, but "ipkg install smartctl" does not work.

I use the bootstrap from this thread for my DS207+.

Any hints?

this package is available here: http://ptyfeng.freepgs.com/syno/marvell ... -0_arm.ipk

you have to download it on your nas, telnet on your box, then cd to the directory where you put the ipk file and type ipkg install smartmontools_5.37-0_arm.ipk

Thanks for the link!
I just tried to install and got this:

Code: Select all

ipkg: ***  Couldnt kill old gunzip process *** aborting

However there doesn't seem to be any gunzip process running

Code: Select all

DiskStation> ps -ef | grep gunzip
 5497 root        208 S   grep gunzip

EDIT: Hmm, appears I downloaded a corrupt package (or the Synology corrupted the file in download, I'll never know) but the second time it worked.

Code: Select all

DiskStation> ipkg install smartmontools_5.37-0_arm.ipk
Installing smartmontools (5.37-0) to root...
Configuring smartmontools
Successfully terminated.

EDIT EDIT: And now it just so happens that my drives WD5000AAKS are not supported by smartctl, well go figure... http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=449191 Well maybe in the next version...

HiYa,
why when I try to install ipkg on my DS207
(does not matter which method i use wheather a or b

it creates new folders "opt" and "tmp" on volume1 visible in samba share and when i delete them it stops to work.
Why is that? Why its not installed into invisible folders like other busybox components?

Sorry for my stupid Q - Im Linux LameO

Methods:

a:
wget http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... 10_arm.ipk
tar -xOvzf ipkg-opt_*_arm.ipk ./data.tar.gz | tar -C / -xzvf -
mkdir -p /opt/etc/ipkg
echo "src cross http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... s/unstable" > /opt/etc/ipkg/armel-feed.conf
echo "src native http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... e/unstable" >> /opt/etc/ipkg/armel-feed.conf
/opt/bin/ipkg update

b:
sh syno-x07-bootstrap_1.2-5_arm.xsh
[ LCD TV Samsung LE37B650; Synology DS410 + 2 x 2 TB HDD Samsung HD204UI; Media Player/HDD Recorder Ellion HMR-350H LAN ]
