IPKG on DS209+

Unread post by bartdevriendt » Thu Oct 30, 2008 1:36 pm

Hello,

Last weekend I spend 4 hours searching how to install IPKG on my brand new DS209+. I found out that IPKG can only be installed using the script at the following link:

http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... owerpc.xsh

All other methods failed:

http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/DS101/DS101BootStrap
http://www.maartendamen.com/node/27

The end result was always the wget command resulted in segmentation faults. Also other command wouldn't work anymore.

Just upload the syno bootstrap file to your public directory and run the file from the command line. After reboot ipkg should work correctly.

Hope this helps others saving some time.

For anyone interested use this file:
http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... owerpc.xsh
but unlike earlier DS's after installing this find the file ipkg.conf located in /opt/etc use VI to edit this file and add the line:
src packages http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... s/unstable
make sure it is uncommented save this file and quit VI then run the command ipkg update.
This works !!

This version does no longer install into /volume1/opt but in /volume1/@optware. There is no need for further modifications.

I'm also facing the problem.

That's what I have done
1) Download http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... owerpc.xsh to DS public folder
2) sh ./syno-e500-bootstrap_1.2-5_powerpc.xsh
3) cd bootstrap.sh
4) sh ./bootstrap.sh
5) ipkg list_installed
It shows:
DiskStation> ipkg list_installed
ipkg-opt - 0.99.163-10 -
optware-bootstrap - 1.2-5 -
wget - 1.11.4-1 -
Successfully terminated.

Then I reboot.
6) ipkg update
It gives the core dumped error

DiskStation> ipkg update
Downloading http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... e/Packages
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Downloading http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... ackages.gz
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
An error ocurred, return value: 2.

ipkg_download: ERROR: Command failed with return value 139: `wget --passive-ftp -q -P /opt/ipkg-VQRK2j http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... ackages.gz'

7) DiskStation> wget
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Did I do something wrong?

Thank you very much.

I found that there are two wget in my DS after run the bootstrap for e800.xsh

One is in /usr/syno/bin
Another is /opt/bin ( Installed by the bootstrap)

Do they make the core dumped?

Thank you.

I installed IPKG using the instructions in the blog entry (well, almost - I didn't create an /volume1/public/ folder to save the *.xsh-file in, I just saved it in a folder under /volume1/ which was already there) - worked fine!

Make sure to login telenet/SSH as root using your administrator password. If you login as administrator then IPKG wont install.

Hi, I am having the same issue as the poster above (Jason). I followed the instructions from the blog above. I have a DS109+. The installation seems to work okay, but I get this error when executing "ipkg update".

DiskStation> ipkg update
Downloading http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... ackages.gz
Segmentation fault
An error ocurred, return value: 1.
Collected errors:
ipkg_download: ERROR: Command failed with return value 139: `wget --passive-ftp -q -P /opt/ipkg-6no6Ec http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... ackages.gz'

Has anyone installed ipkg on DS109+? Jason, did you get past this problem, if so please post. Thanks!
