Did not change the name away from diskstation when I set it up.

Is there an easy way to change t after the fact without a reset?
Sure, go to System -> Network and change the server name there.

Named my DS409+ "Monorail" because it's used to move all of our data around the Magic Kingdom. :)

Orac (from Blake's 7), because it's a small box with flashing lights that retains all knowledge.

I named my DS 111 ZIG. It is for my home network and replaces a Windows 2000 server I have used for years. I'm new to Linux and may purchase a second Synology server as a redundant machine (rather than one RAID DS 211). That would also allow me to use the second machine as a lab to learn Linux.

If I get a second Synology server I'll name it ZAG.

Oh, love that :D might steal that idea and replace my current default name of "diskstation". I may have to think about this some more :)

I think you can change it from the admin page - save it - and you're good to go without a reset of the device.

Just got a new RS810RP+ for work and am trying to decide what to name it. Something that needs to be easy to spell, since users will be accessing it, filesharing mostly.

Our server naming scheme is boring. Such as naming the server to its main role.

ie:
Exchange Server = exchange
Main File Server = main
Cad File/Lic Server = cad
ERP Server = erp

The simpler the name the better. Commonly used names like Jacob, Paul, Sally are good to use. If you want to get creative you can just name your servers after characters from a TV show or cartoon. The place I used to work named their servers after different characters from the Peanuts comic.
