HFS+ on USB still not supported!!

Unread post by mac-chatter » Sat Nov 20, 2010 11:26 pm

I was just to connect my external HFS+ via USB to my DS410j. I wanted to transfer a couple of hundred GBs of DV film. Even I now use an older DSM version I have read that DSM 3.0 still ignores HFS+

I'm migrating from an (Apple) Airport Extreme Base Station, which required attached hard drives to be HFS+ formatted. Being able to copy them over directly via USB would be a big, big time saver.

It would be so easy to centralize data from external Mac drive.
And so fast !

Please add this functionality to DSM.
Thanks

I just wanted to add my vote to the HFS+ support request.

I thought eSATA on my DS410+ would be great for archiving files from my external HFS+ drives, but for me this interdace is useless as all my drives are Mac formatted. There are other NAS brands that support HFS+ that I"m too polite to mention, so it can't that difficult and I'm not yet ready to dump my this box on eBay just yet, as DSM is pretty nifty in other areas.

Synology, please take note of the numbers of people visiting this and related topics on your forums - totting them up it's well into the thousands now. So they must be interested in the answers... and they could even be potential customers.

I understand that the support of HFS+ can be tricky.
But could it be possible to at least have a read-only support?

+1 for HFS+ support on your nice product.

I can't believe I didn't check this before I bought the Synology product. I am now thinking i may need to actually sell the thing and buy something else as I am purely Mac and need to add additional space that I can also use to transport stuff. How on earth can they advertise these as Mac compatible - especially when they actively promote iTunes and iPad access which are clearly Apple products?! This may actually be something for trading standards to tackle...

You can still use it with your MAC perfectly well, the USB just will not read HFS+ for usb copy as yet.

No NAS ( Qnap, Thecus, whoever) formats the drives in its bays in HFS+, RAID uses ext3/Ext4. this is simply the ability to copy directly, from a thumb drive, or hard drive using the USB slot on the nas, you can still just throw it from your mac onto the nas. read and write from you mac to the nas, and simple as anything.

They will fix it shortly im sure, i have mac's and the synolgy was the better choice.
