Currently, when you attempt to download a file, whether it is through HTTP or Torrent, you have to wait until it's downloaded completely (100%) before it appears in the default download directory and you are able to see/open it. The temporary files are hidden and then you cannot see or open them browsing files using the Synology web interface or windows explorer (SMB share).
Particularly on a HTTP download, if it's a video/movie, you have to wait till it's downloaded completely and you cannot stream while downloading just like you can with almost every web browsers and software for downloads, where a visible temporary file with a cache file type extension is created in the default download directory, and you can open it with e.g VLC and watch it while it downloads. This is a great disadvantage on Synology Download Station.
And then about torrents (applies to other P2P downloads like emule I guess) if the torrent contains several files, you have to wait until ALL the files of the torrent downloaded completely to be able to see/open ANY of them in the default download directory. Otherwise you cannot see them. Sometimes you might download something by mistake or a fake and you won't even be able to notice until you've downloaded 100% of ALL THE FILES. Only after completion, Download Station moves the whole folder from the temporary files folder (hidden) to the default download directory.
Please Synology, you've got to change this!!

This problem was mentioned before
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=47698

and there's a workaround, but it involves accessing the unit through telnet and SMB sharing the temporary files folder. Here's the guide
http://petestechblog.dyndns.org/?p=132

An official fix would really be appreciated. It shouldn't require much coding to solve it.
Thanks

Can you please add:

1) Ability to re-check existing downloads. I have 2000GB of torrents I cannot seed due to the lack of this most basic function.

I purchased a NAS with the Torrent downloads being one of the most important functions.
I moved over from a terrible Buffalo NAS, however as the Buffalo models have uTorrent embedded even the Buffalo is years ahead when it comes to Torrenting/downloading.

As Synology was a premium NAS I assumed it would at least have the functionality of a Buffalo. When it comes to Torrenting that isn't the case. It is disappointment

In case of BT:
Verfy feature is missing for me too.
As well as displaying the possible/connected seeders and leechers in the grid not just the detail panel.

Please add the ability to limit the amount uploaded and downloaded. My provider reduces my speed after 200GB downloaded or 50GB uploaded (whichever comes first). I know I can limit the speed but it would be a HUGE benefit to also be able to limit the amount of data uploaded/downloaded as well.

Thanks in advance.

emphatic wrote:Hi, first of all, I'm new to this forum, so if I'm posting this in the wrong section, I apologize in advance. Is there a section for bug reports?

When using the RSS part of DownloadStation (ver. 3.3-2386 on a DS212j), I have recently encountered an issue where the page number, when browsing a feed or a list of filters that span across many pages, keep jumping back to 1 every 2-3 seconds. This is making the adding of new downloads very difficult, and editing the filters a nightmare, even when you're on page 1, as it keeps jumping to the top.

I am using Google Chrome, but I've also tried Internet Explorer and the issue persists, so I'm positive that this is not a simple browser incompatibility.

Same here... this is very very annoying...

Hi there,

BIG issue for me with download station is the scheduler. Although it's a great feature to have, my ISP has pean and off peak times, in the past I've used utorrent which has the ability to FORCE START a torrent download, meaning if your scheduler is on, it will start the torrent upon request but not start the other torrents you may have added to the queue for off-peak downloading, really wish DS had this ability, as currently I have to pause all downloads bar the file I want immediately, turn scheduler off, downlooad fine, then enable scheduler and start the other torrents again which go to paused.. please please add this ferature!! Many Australian ISP's have these peak/off peak times, very frustrating!

Download Station Settings as it should be.

Hi. Here is a request for download station settings.
Look at the below pictures, they explain what I mean.
I would very much like an "And / OR".

1. Multiple Connection for HTTP/HTTPS/FTP Downloads (Download accelerator)
2. ability to select Groups/Category for each downloads (so it can be downloaded to different folders automatically, and also expose the same to API's / plugins so we can directly download an item to the specified destined directory)
3. scheduler with FORCE-Download option (which will ignore the scheduler timings similar to uTorrent)
4. ability to move files after completion and still keep seeding. (I know there is AUTO move function, but manual control would be better)
5. ability to view/open partial downloaded files (right now its being downloaded in a hidden folder and until whole package/torrent is complete u cannot view the files).

To make a suggestion on English only forum when your system language is Norwegian is maybe not the best idea?

Make it download faster, make it use less CPU and/or fix caching. The disk caching settings in utorrent for PC works very well to be able to max out my 100mbit fiber. Download station manages 15-70 but goes up and down like a jo-jo.

Be able to choose specific files in a torrent to donwload without needing to click every single checkbox. Using shift as marking them works but not to check or uncheck multiple files at once.

Is there a way for Download Station to automatically download files over FTP?

For example, I have a server where people occasionally upload stuff. I'd like my Synology to automatically download any new file that pops up on the server. That could be accomplished at least two ways:

a) Download Station watches the FTP folder, and automatically downloads any new file it sees
b) I create a script that watches the FTP folder, and I push a list with all new files to the Synology. In this case, I want Download Station to automatically start downloading all the files in that list (something similar to .torrent watched folder, but with FTP URLs instead of torrent files).

Does such a feature exist? If not, I would really love to see it implemented...

Well numbnut, first of all this is Danish.
Second, if you can´t read a picture. I give up.
Did you even see, that there is a difference between the two pictures?
The "And / Or" part, if you don´t know what that is, or why someone could use this option,
the why even reply....

I wonder how are you guys can live with this totally annoying every-single-one-checkbox-should-be-checked process?
Imagine you have to download just one folder from a big torrent file with 1000 files and tens of folders (it could be discography, for example)?
As for now, syno devs force you to navigate (really slowly, have to mention) to the desired page in web interface of SynoDS and then click-click-click till death...
And while you are navigating and clicking, unnecessary hundreds of files are being downloaded for no reason.

Please, syno devs, look at the vast majority of torrent clients out there and show the folder structure instead of gigantic one-level file list!
