Hyper Backup to support Azure Archive Storage

Unread post by techthoughts » Tue Dec 26, 2017 8:21 pm

Azure has recently release a new storage tier: Azure Archive Storage

This storage tier is (currently) 80% cheaper than Azure cool storage, and half the price of Amazon Glacier.

However, Hyper Backup does not have native support for Azure Archive Storage at this time.

The limitations and use of the new technology are discussed in this recent reddit thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comme ... er_backup/

I'd like to request that Hyper Backup support some form of long form Archive storage to this new Azure offering.

I support that. Long term backups should be in the Archive tier. Also, I'm a bit concerned if some of the backup files should maybe be in the Hot tier, such as database and metadata files? Automating the change of tiers would probably make us pay less for Azure storage.

I agree that this would be an excellent feature.

Absolutely - this would be a great enhancement. I've been looking to consolidate all of my services on Azure; currently backups are targeted for Amazon Glacier. I'd prefer to be using Hyper Backup which is more fully featured and robust instead of Syno's Glacier Backup.

+1 for natively being able to assign Synology backup to Azure's archive storage tier!

In the absence of this, any advice as to which blobs are "safe" to assign manually as archive, and which should be left as either "cool" or "hot"? I'm assuming the blobs within the numbered "Pools" could all be safely set to archive, but leave the rest at "cool" or "hot"?
