Check it out at https://poyu.co.uk/2017/10/25/synology- ... m-upgrade/ nothing fancy thought I post it here. If anyone is interested in seeing the DS218+, hopefully I crack it open to upgrade the 2GB.

Checkout how to run a docker benchmark container on your Synology
https://poyu.co.uk/2017/10/28/benchmark ... gh-docker/

Here is a snippet of the results
Synology DiskStation DS218+ (Intel Celeron J3355 @ 2.00 GHz 1 processor, 2 cores)
Image
Synology RackStation RS815+ (Intel Atom C2538 @ 2.40 GHz 1 processor, 4 cores)
Image
The Intel Celeron J3355 is faster than the Intel Atom C2538 in the single-core performance, due to only having 2 cores it slightly slower overall. The Intel Atom C2538 has four CPU and has a TDP of 15W it’s takes a 50% more power consumption level. The newer Celeron does well with just having a TDP of 10W, reduce power consumption lower heat output for near enough the same performance. Though there is a massive speed boast with AES for the DS218+, oddly both CPU has Intel® AES New Instructions

Here is the disassemble / tear down of the DS218+ to access the first SO-DIMM, by replacing the first module you can achieve better performance. Check out https://poyu.co.uk/2017/11/05/disassemb ... the-ds218/

Hi,

I follow the step you gave us...but unfortunately, my 8Go RAM (the same one CRUCIAL 1600) is not viewed by Synology DS218+...:(
Any idea?
Thank you very much
Benoit

Sorry for the late reply, you sure you got the right model number? . It's odd that your system booted with a non compatible RAM. May I suggest you seat the RAM again, it would either not boot or work when fitting RAM. I don't remember a system that simply ignore RAM that's are non compatible. It would just beep and shut down.

Yippym, thanks for your guide. Have you ever tried to stick 32GB RAM into DS218+? I wonder if 16 GB is a limit for this device. Thanks.

Sorry I do not have 16GB stick, I believe it wouldn't address the memory size for it. 8GB per channel the CPU can handle 2 channels 8GB * 2.

Anynone else tried a faster module, like the CT102464BF186D for example?

https://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopi ... 50#p505950 Just going to copy and paste my post about 1866MHz vs 1600MHz modules

Here is a comparison of the DS218+ with (1600MHz) vs DS918+ with (1866MHZ) 16GB of RAM:
https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/co ... ne=4787522

DS218+
Intel Celeron J3355 @ 2.00 GHz 1 processor, 2 cores
16GB 1600MHz 2*8GB CT102464BF160B

vs

DS918+
Intel Celeron J3455 @ 1.50 GHz 1 processor, 4 cores
16GB 1866MHz 2*8GB CT2C8G3S186DM

Result:
The memory performance does not show much/big difference when using 1866Mhz modules, it's best to save up and just use 1600Mhz. If the faster rated module cost the same I don't see why not, the extra 2 cores in the Intel J3455 helps the DS918+ multi-tasking capability by an extra 47%. But the 2 core Intel J3355 is 7% faster in single core performance due to the faster processing speed of 2GHz compared to the 1.50GHz.
