Currently I' managing several Diskstation's (DS216, DS716+II, DS716+II, DS216j). The DS716+II, DS716+II, DS216 successfully updated to 6.1.7-15248. the DS216j crashes completely. The Diskstation is still reachable by entering the IP-Address, but answers on a Synology styles blue page:

"Sorry, the page you are looking for is not found"

What I have tried so far:

With HDD

Blinking orange light

In this setup, the Synology Assistant didn't find the Diskstation

Orange light has different meanings:

https://www.synology.com/en-global/know ... _in_orange

1. No hard drives are installed (STATUS LED will flash in orange/green).
2. DSM has not been installed.
3. No volumes are created.
4. The volume is in degraded mode.
5. The volume has crashed.

In my case it could be only 4 or 5.

Without HDD -> Blinking orange light

Blinking orange light
In this setup, the Synology Assistant could find the DS with the message "Not installed".
This indicates point 1 or 2.

I also talked to the Synology support which recommend to do a hard reset and reinstall the DiskStation.
Sorry, but this could not the solution. I bought this backup station to backup my files and I would not start to backup my backup. There should be a solution to fix this error :-/

Does anyone were able to fix this issue?

Thanks in advice,

Florian

Time zone changed....

Unread post by Cyberjoe » Tue Jun 12, 2018 5:39 pm

All of my NAS for all my clients are set to GMT -5 Eastern US and Canada. Today I got reports some of my clients in several offices were not getting their map drives anymore. These NAS are domain joined and AD policies push out the mapped drives to the shares.

What I eventually found out is that all the NAS are now set to GMT -5 Bogota/Lima which the time there is 1 hour different from ours due to DST. For whatever reason I believe the latest update must have changes this??? I changed them all back to GMT -5 Eastern US and Canada, did a gpupdate and all came back.

Perhaps a bug in the latest firmware changed the timezone settings somehow? Should be looked into, caused me a couple hours of grief since if the NAS time is not the same as the server time, then I get failed GP with authentication errors.

Thanks!

It can be no. 2 as well if something went wrong with the update.

If you had a mirrored volume I would try the following:

1) boot with 1 disk inserted only, may be there is a problem only on one of them.

If this does solve the problem (Syonolgy Assistant can find the DS), wipe the other disk, reinsert it and repair the volume

2) Remove both disks, wipe one of them, reinsert it and reinstall DSM. Then add the 2nd disk. If you are lucky, the status will now be "migrateable" which means you are fine and your volume will be back (degraded of course). If not, you can still access the 2nd disk using a linux live system.

If your volume wasnt mirrored, then there is nothing you can do. Start from scratch.

Side notes:
1) a hard reset does not wipe your data but let you reinstall the DSM, however, I dont think the reset button will work if the DS cant find a proper DSM
2) having "a backup of the backup" isnt that dumb as you may think. There are enough informations available on the net about a good backup strategy!

Its a mirrored drive, I will try this, thanks. The most frustrating part is the resynchronisation of CloudStation. If I need to install the DSM, is there any possibility to speed up the synchronization, by for example move the already synchronized data to the newly created CloudStation folder?

I don't know how to test this, because the DSM is not working anymore :-/

Does anyone could explain why this happened in my case and if this only rarely occurs in mean of all DSM users?

Thanks for your help!!

Wanted to give an update on mine also. Turns out to apparently have been a coincident hardware failure. Synology Support processed an RMA for me, which got everything resolved. They honestly were great.
