DSM 6.1.5-15254 Failed to Update Package Universal Search

Unread post by sieberta » Wed Feb 07, 2018 2:42 pm

I upgraded yesterday to DSM 6.1.5-15254 on my DS415+. Afterward, I was notified of an error in the logs saying "Failed to Update Package [Universal Search]"

The Universal Search Installed Version is: 1.0.9-0159
and it says the Newest Version is: 1.0.9-0159

I don't really 'use' Universal Search, so I'm not super worried. But like most, I don't care for error messages. So I'm wondering if anyone else received this error when upgrading and if they did anything to 'correct' it. In particular, I'd like to have a resolution on this before I upgrade my 916+, which is more critical to my business.

I got the Universal search error too when I looked in the logs - others in this thread have too. Didn't get an email for some reason. I don't notice any problems with that error.

Hi Nate, how long does it usually take for someone to come back?

I've generally gotten a response within a few days, but you can also submit a support request through the unit itself by logging in to DSM and clicking on menu (upper left) and then "Support Center".

This can be faster.

I'm in the same boat exactly. Can't notice anything different in functionality though. (DS916+ with only Download Station and Cloud Station installed).

antar wrote:Hello,
updating my DS213j to version 6.1.5-125j was (rather still remains) a nightmare, since the box shows a 100% to 99% cpu load, even 12 hours after the update and remains quite unresponsive at the DSM management console. Access to files under windows 10 is possible yet painfully slow.
Googling around I read in some posts that I am not the only one suffering this problem.
I am very upset, since I cannot access my several TB data and have no clue how to get out of this situation. I also wonder why no one has raised any similar issue in this forum. Is it related to the DS213j or specific models? If so, I would expect Synology at least to warn about the issue. To tell the truth, I received many emails from Synology insisting on the need and usefulness of upgrading. The automatic upgrades consistently failed, so I decided to do the upgrade myself from the DSM console. Initially it seemed OK, but soon the cpu load increased to 100% and the box became unresponsive, at least externally.

I expect Synology to provide adequate assistance to solve the problem. Until now, 14 hours later, I am still wondering what to do.
If anyone has any helpful suggestion I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
A. Aranda
I've also just upgraded from DSM 5.2 to 6.1.5 after waiting until any bugs had been ironed out. I'm also seeing very high CPU usage like several others I've seen here. I've left the usual photo/ video/ audio stations running. The model is the DS213j too. Seems to be a random issue as others with 213 have said their upgrade was fine.

If anyone has any other recommendations on how to improve the situation that would be most useful.

Hi all,

As most of you guys upgraded fine, I decided to go and upgrade my DS2415+ running with 11x 4TB drives in 2 volumes (7+4)...
After having initated the reboot, the NAS now shows :
- blinking blue LED (power)
- blinking red LED (Alert)
- all drives belonging to first volume (slots 1 through 7) do not show any led at all
- bay 8, which is empty, has an orange led
- bays 9 through 12 also show orange leds

Unit does not respond to ping, long press on power button does nothing...

To be noted, I applied all past releases without an issue, last upgrade was performed something like 2 or 3 weeks ago.
I hope I'm not running into the C2000 issue with my unit, I thought the CPU problem got "fixed" with software/kernel patch...

EDIT - 2018-02-12

Following my initial post, I did :
- pulled power cord to shut it down (no other mean to do it)
- tried booting with only volume1 disks : FAIL
- tried booting without any an disk : FAIL
- tried booting with a brand new disk : FAIL
- tried Synology Assistant to locate NAS : FAIL, SA does not find the unit at all.

To be noted :
- as soon as I power it up, both power and alert LEDs start blinking
- no beep
- NICs do not show any link

I highly suspect my motherboard to be toasted, I've opened a ticket at Synology support, but with the Chinese New Year starting on the 15th, their support service will be closed until the 20th...
I hope I'll have an answer from them before their support closes.
In the meantime, I've also sent an email to Amazon customer service to check whether they could proceed with a replacement directly...

I really realy reaaalllllyyyy hope that my hard drives are fine...

Fingers crossed !

May be try reinstall Universal search?
1. loading as root
2. synopkg uninstall SynoFinder
3. reinstall from package center

Do we really need the universal search? can't it just be uninstalled or disabled?

It always seems like it will be an adventure :? both the DS213j and DS413 upgraded OK. :)

During the system upgrade it tried to also upgrade Universal Search on both of my boxes, and failed on both (got the email after the upgrade), but I could manually upgrade those packages after the system upgrade and it worked OK.

When I first logged into my DS213j I had 99% CPU, but after a minute I was down into the 20s and it has stayed there for the last 10 minutes.
DS213j - 2x WD Red, RAID 1
DS413  - 4x WD Red, RAID 6
