RackStation RS815+ Replacement?

Postby gambit07 » Fri Feb 24, 2017 6:56 pm

Hello all, I was just curious if I should expect to see an update to the RS815+ at any point in the near future? I've been holding off on upgrading my ds214+ but probably won't be able to much longer. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat. Except I'm upgrading from a DS410. I'm not going to buy any NAS model using the C2000 Atom CPU right now. And that includes the current RS815+ model

Also Intel has just announced new C3000 Atom CPUs that would make for some really nice NAS boxes.

But I've been waiting 6months now for some announcement on an RS815+ replacement model.

I hope they will replace the RS815+ soon. My main problem with buying older units is that DSM support runs out faster then a new model.

So Synology, how about it?

Well, I've been waiting for an 815+ replacement to be announced since September. I am amazed at how slow Synology is at product announcements compared to their competitors.

From September until the End of December I count 14 product announcements for QNAP. Five of those seem to be different SKUs based upon the default config.

Hi all,

I had openend a thread on "Is a RS816+ I planed?" more than 1 year ago now... and it seems that we are all still waiting for that replacement...

But, 3 weeks after the release of the DS1517+ and DS1817+ still no news about an afordable, 4 to 8 disks, fast, rackable NAS by Synology.

DS1517+ and DS1817+ give an idea of what could be a RS817+, with moreover a C3000 Atom CPU and I'm even more impatient!

In addition to that, it would be the very good moment for me for the RS817+ to release after a big crash of my DS412+ 2 weeks ago (2 disks failed in 2 hours)... I would feel more comfy with a RS817+ in principal NAS and DS412+ as backup.

Any news?...

I'll order one and a new one will be announced within a few day I bet. :(

So in a few days this model will be 2.5 years old!! I am actually starting to get stressed about what my options are now. I got an amazing deal on a RX415 so I rather stick with synology.

So instead of a replacement for a system 30 months old they replace 2 newer NAS boxes that are 12-18months old.

Guess I'll just have to wait for an RS818 now.

Hi,
We now see X18 products been released (DS 418J).
When is the RS815+ replacement product going to come ?
RS815+ should be 2+ years old....., meaning it is obsolete in the IT world.

You probably won't see a replacement until the Intel C3000 Series chips are released. I have seen some other products that have had specs sheets coming out recently with the yet unreleased or officially even announced C3000 series SKU's. So hopefully we're getting pretty close.

I really hope you're right.

The C3000 Series of chips were released in February. Even then there's only been the dual core C3338 released. Everything I've read about the C3955 was also back in february. Silence since then. It's not even listed on Intels release charts where they usually have a TBA.

Check your link again, you'll see as of today all the C3000 Series SKU's are now showing on the Intel Website. SuperMicro has released a series of embedded Mini ITX boards based on this SOC.

Hopefully it won't take Synology too long to start releasing new devices with these CPU's, but they are historically pretty slow to adopt new CPU's when they initially come out.
