RT2600AC speeds with 4G USB Dongle / Android phone ??

Postby icanic » Tue May 30, 2017 11:39 pm

Greetings!

I need some help with 4G dongles on Synology RT2600AC router.
I have tried to connect Alcatel One Touch L850V 4G LTE USB dongle and android smartphone Samsung Galaxy J5.
I know that both of these devices is not on compatibility list but I have a few questions about the speed/bandwith (mbits) on 4G.
I have used both of these devices on synology router and they both work, but there is some problems regarding the speed of 4G connection.
It seems like the speed on 4G is limited by router to about 40-45 mbits. When I try to tether my phone to synology router, the tested bandwith on the phone is about 80-90 mbits and when I try to test bandwith in my lan while the phone is connected to router I get only about 40-45 mbits, the same is with the Alcatel 4G USB dongle.
Is the bandwith of 4G dongles limited to 45 mbits on synology router USB ports or what? Does anyone else have these problems?
Why does my both devices works only on 40-45 mbits while connected on synology router, but when I connected them directly to PC I get bandwith over 100 mbits.
If I buy a device from compatibility list of 4G dongles, would I get better speeds then 45mbits over 4G if my signal is great?
Does anyone have speeds about 100 mbits on 4G stick?

Thank you!

Boy, I'd really like to know what works in the North American/USA 4G LTE market for the Synology RT2600AC. I actually contacted Synology after I couldn't find a *single* USB 4G LTE modem dongle for sale online _anywhere_ in the US. I really want to have a 4G wireless backup to our cable provider.

If it's not on compatibility list then it ought have issues with NAS. I have not tried it on with 4G LTE Wireless connection. It is just working with my single ISP 100 mbps connection. I really wish though I had a backup with 4G connection.

I wanted a 4G USB dongle as well but didn't want to deal with figuring out which Huawei would work… went with the Netgear LB1120 and set LAN1 to WAN2:

@coreygo

I'd never seen this product before. Does it really work with any US carriers? I'm eager to know!

Thanks in advance.

It should work with most every 4G LTE GSM provider (ATT, TMO, etc). You may need a SIM adapter like I did for my Project Fi SIM. Check my other post about the LB1120 for more info. Or check out the band information on the spec page to confirm:
