CT8G3S186DM (8GB) - appears to the same spec but a single 8GB SODIMM instead of 2 x 8GB kit i posted earlier so it should work fine.

The video is in German (Closed Captions work well enough), but it appears as though iDomix confirmed the DS918+ can actually handle up to 16GB of RAM.

Be aware, overall system stability may change depending on the model of RAM you select and which operations you choose to run on your device.

The 4Gb Crucial module, CT51264BF186D, works perfectly in the DS918+, alongside the standard Synology 4Gb module. The specs are identical and I've had the Crucial module installed since I first unpacked the NAS ! Cost £25 in UK.

Are there more brand/models that may be compatible with DS918+?

Hi friends.

I've got a DS918+ arriving today and I would like to know if DDR3L 1600Mhz will work on it?

I got 8GB of Crucial DDR3L 1600 (PC3L-12800) CL11 SODIMM 204-Pin - CT102464BF160B in my DS716+ and I would like to know if it is OK to put it on the DS918+

Will it work being only 1600Mhz ? The DIMM that comes with the DS918+ is 1866MHz right?
And if it works is it better to have more memory but a little slower?

Hi there,

i've just installed 2 x 8GB HyperX 1866MHZ DDR3L.
It works like a charm. NAS seems to work much more faster and now i can run my Docker containers and VM more effectively :D

Excuse me being a newbie. I am trying to research and be informed I recently purchase the DS918+ and would like to upgrade the memory and get the M.2 drive if it is worth doing. I am trying to find the exact memory in the first post here up in Canada but no such luck. I found this similar memory below. Does anyone know if this is fine? And is it worth upgrading the memory and getting M.2.? Trying to future proof as best as possible and realize it is likely overkill for my needs (Plex, home net file sharing and storage) but I am still learning about NAS and who the features and uses it can provide. I appreciate any guidance.

Hey Canuckz,

You should find the ram on Newegg (dot) ca. Just search for CT2K8G3S186DM
Also on Amazon (dot) ca, but cheaper at Newegg.

I would skip the SSD cache for now unless you have a specific need. It just adds another layer of complexity and point of failure.
Good luck! :)

If you use the NAS in an office or living space, I think the SSD cache is worth it. Drives don't spin up as much and you can hear the difference.
The SSD don't need to be the fastest/latest. I went with dirt cheap Intel 600p.

2 x Kingston HyperX 8GB 1866MHZ DDR3L works fine. FYI: the Kingston is CL11, and Crucial is CL13, so Kingston may be a little faster, but runs hotter.
