Log Option

Postby Richard1982 » Sun Oct 05, 2014 4:13 pm

This is a great package!
I have been waiting for this for a long time, it speeds up my job and the internet sites loading.
Any chance we can get some type of log going on with it to tell us what bandwidth it has saved (weekly, monthly) and the current cache used.

Postby oRBIT » Mon Oct 13, 2014 7:41 am

So, how do we view the proxy server log?

tail it via ssh ,

or (easier once setup) Syno proxy app --- > Syno Syslog --- > Syno log center

You can even set alerts up then when certain strings are encountered, amoung other stuff

I cannot see any logs in sys log center. And after I ssh my naps, only cache.log exists under /var/packages/ProxyServer/target/squid/var/logs/. No access.log.

How can I see access.log? I need to know whether the proxy works or not.
And I use admin to ssh but cannot open cache.log. How can I grant the access to admin account?

Login as root, same password as admin account.

The logs may not be generated if proxy hasnt been used.

Configure browser to use the proxy explicity to check it.

Setting up logs

Postby chrissta » Thu Jan 01, 2015 11:20 am

Hi all,

Sorry for a probably basic question but can someone explain how to configure things so that I can receive the proxy server logs in the Syno Log Center. Right now, I'm only able to get them via SSH which is not very user friendly.

Thanks

This appears to yet another example of a vendor deliberately disregarding standard Unix conventions to obfuscate things in favor of user dependence and a thin veil of proprietary-ness. From the startup script:

if [ ! -d /usr/local/libexec/net/topology_change ]; then
mkdir -p /usr/local/libexec/net/topology_change
ln -s ${PRIVATE_LOCATION}/tools/synoproxyserver_nat_hook.sh /usr/local/libexec/net/topology_change/
ln -s ${PRIVATE_LOCATION}/etc/squid.logrotate /usr/local/etc/logrotate.d/squid
chown -R nobody:nobody ${PRIVATE_LOCATION}/squid/var/logs
rm -f /usr/local/libexec/net/topology_change/synoproxyserver_nat_hook.sh
rm -f /usr/local/etc/logrotate.d/squid

I don't have time to reverse engineer this right now. I hope they get their logging act together quickly.

I found it here:

//volume_name/@appstore/ProxyServer/squid/var/logs/access.log

Return to “Proxy Server”
