Sync pics and movies to many different NAS

Unread post by mwhip » Fri Dec 16, 2016 3:14 pm

I am thinking I want to setup a personal NAS network among my family in different locations. For example say there is 5 households spread across the US and we all have Synology NAS devices. If I upload pics and videos of the kids to one shared folder on my synology how can I make sure they get synced to the other 4 across the US? Same with my Brother in Law with his kids and this would include getting pics and videos of sports games to the grandparents as well. Best option?

Cloud station could do the job.
I am not sure If I can recommend using it for your purpose, as it is meant for continuous sync, and quite heavy to run and setup.
Possibly a shared folder sync, that you can schedule on a regular basis, a better solution for your application.

Is a simple share of your photo station not fast enough?

Shared folder sync can not be used to sync. Its a one way backup solution. OP needs to sync in both directions.

Ik have understood the question as a one way push to other NAS, not a sync. I also understand that the data does not need to be in one folder, It can be shared into different folders.
But If I did not understand well, shared folder sync is not the solution.
A two way Sync could bring a risk, if the grandfather deletes a photo, it might also be deleted on the source. My father does that kind of things :D

Very true but I backup to the cloud before I put it on the NAS just because I am paranoid.

I am thinking a cloud sync will work but everyone needs to have a google drive account or something like that. Also we could end up being a couple 100 GB of data and that can get pricey when you already have a two bay NAS.
