Convert files within the ds

Unread post by Avskedsfest » Mon Apr 02, 2018 1:19 pm

Hi

I tried to download files from my ds via ds video. It turns oumt that the files need to have special formats.

Is there an app within ds that converts files to the correct format? It would be great to be able to convert files before a flight... i guess i could do it on my computer, but it would be convienient to do it on the ds...

By the way, the format supported is mp4, right?

Thanks!

More details please. What is your file package and codecs? Are you trying to transcode downloads or download original quality. You should be able to download ANY file that is viewable from DSV.

ds video do this if your NAS have transcode . what NAS?
also mkv is not codec. mkv contain the codec. what is codec inside mkv?

My NAS is a Synology DS 213J

I am not good with codecs.... All I know is that sometimes I need to open a video file with VLC instead of the normal way.

How can I know what codes is included in the files?

On Windows, MediaInfo is a simple tool to see that. Right-click the file of interest, and it displays the relevant info.

I suspect the HVEC is the cause of compatibility issues as it has not been fully incorporated within video players. Your 213j is incapable of transcoding HVEC. With the exception of the ds216play, you pretty much have to go to the 2018 Synology series to transcode HVEC.

That said, IIRC, DS Video uses your default video player (it has no video player itself). If VLC runs these files without transcoding, then make VLC your device's default video player.
