DS Cam for Windows?

Postby ccomley » Thu Jun 23, 2016 5:33 pm

Hi folks,

I have a 2-cam SurvStn setup. Really only one cam is important and I would like to monitor that from my office. I can do this by running Surv Stn "real time" on my PC but it uses a LOT of CPU /RAM and I don't need half the functionality. Ideally I'd like something like the DS_Cam app on my tablet, which JUST shows the live feed from a selected camera and that's all.

DS_Cam isn't available for Windows so far as I can see. Am I missing something? Any suggestions?

Cheers.

Hi, I am currently also using Windows 10 on a laptop to view the cameras I have installed. I have an old android tablet that I was able to install the Synology "cam" app and it works very well. The only problem is keeping the tablet juiced up all the time. Their is NVR104 by Trendnet that may fit your needs. Another route is a NAS with a HDMI connection to a monitor or LCD television.

Synology also has the NVR216 but it is costly. It has HDMI connection. QNAP also has a few NAS with HDMI. The other option is to get an old desktop with monitor and use that as a surveillance station using Synology surveillance.

Hope this helps.

Thanks - was hoping for a solution which didn't require more hardware.

I use an android tab to monitor one cam, it's fine, but I'd like something similar in another room, don't have another spare old tablet I can dedicate to it.

I am having the same problem.
I want an authenticated user to see the live audio/video stream from a PC.
DS Cam is not (yet) available on a PC. That would solve the problem.
The best I came up with so far is an unauthenticated user using a rtsp stram i.c.w. VLC.
This I how I did it.

GoTo: SurveillanceStation
I my case: http://192.168.2.11:4000/webman/3rdpart ... ceStation/
GoTo: IP-camera
Right-click on an active camera.
Select: Share Stream Path
See: https://www.synology.com/en-uk/knowledg ... tream_path
Copy the rtsp URL. In my case: rtsp://syno:8b4e9876615186965e311969832 ... =3.unicast
Then I used VLC (videolan.org) to view the rtsp stream. By starting VLC en choose: Open Network stream.
Past the rtsp URL: rtsp://syno:8b4e9876615186965e311969832 ... =3.unicast
And VLC will show the audio/video stream.

If you want the rtsp URL to be permanent (non expiring) then GoTo the came and edit.
Choose: Live view setup
Choose: Advanced
GoTo: Stream path validity and change it from one hour to permanent.

If you want, you can create a desktop icon like this one. So you can see the camera with one click:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" rtsp://syno:8b4e9876615186965e311969832 ... =3.unicast

Is this helpfull?

My question is: How can I view a camera stream with an authenticated user?
I my example anyone with the URL can see the stream.
With DS Cam, only an authenticated user can. That is what I want.
Suggestions? Anyone?

Are you serious? Use Surveillance Client.
