This is an old nagging problem and it pops up everytime I am installing a specific app like owncloud, Kodi etc which requires a sql user account. I would connect from different devices in my LAN thus preferring one user per app which is defined in MariaDB5 or 10 like

Exampleuser@%

thus allowing access from any host. This never works! Never! I always have create 3 users for 3 hosts each with the proper hostname otherwise the connections are always refused.
Is this something specific about the Synology instalation or do I simply not understand SQL syntax enough?
