Plex "failed to run the package service" on DS1813+

I've installed Plex in the Package Center of my new DS1813+, yet it fails to run every time I try.

I've tried uninstalling the package and re-installing, yet I get the same response every time; " Failed to run the package service".

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?!

I don't have a solution for you, but I just got the same problem.

Originally I installed it on my 1513+ and it worked fine. I tried to log in today and it would not accept any logins I created. Since I just started working with it, I opted to reinstall so I could set everything up from scratch.

First, it wouldn't reinstall without deleting user info. So I manually SSHed into it and deleted the Plex directory.

Then I reinstalled. Now it gives me the same error you're getting. Every time I try to run the server, it fails.

It's driving me nuts.

Try the official Plex packages - just do a manual install

http://www.plexapp.com/getplex/


The Package Center ones are often not kept up to date by Synology.

If you still have problems, check the Plex forums - its much more active than this one.

FYI - I got past this issue by rebooting the Synology. Once it rebooted, it was fine. Hopefully that will work for the OP.

I have yet to try a newer package from Plex, but I presently have an open issue in that after it installs, though I never set a username/password, it eventually starts asking me for one to administer it (this is all from the same LAN/IP address space). If there's a default, if someone could let me know what it is, I'd appreciate it. If there's not, then there must be a bug...

I've tried rebooting and that made no difference. I've also tried manually installing the newest package from Plex, but get the same result as before; "Failed to run the package service" :(

Not very happy as half the reason I bought the Synology was to run it as a Plex server with all my media!

Ok, I've finally got it to work!

In the end I uninstalled the Plex package and then connected via ssh and deleted the following directories...

/var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/dsm_config/plex
/usr/syno/synoman/webman/3rdparty/plex

I then manually installed the latest version of Plex from plexapp.com and all is well - I have Plex Media Server running and can access my media once again! :D

Hi!

I have the same problem on my new DS1813+.
Plex did work the first time but then something happen and I uninstalled it and now it doesn´t work.
The install seams to work but then the message "Failed to run the package service" appears.
I have tried to reinstall both the version in synologys database (0.9.7.28.33) and the one on Plex-site (0.9.8.6.175) but both give the same message.
I have also tried to remove the folders

/var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/dsm_config/plex
/usr/syno/synoman/webman/3rdparty/plex

via SSH

I have also tried to give the user "Plex" R/W-access to all folders...
The package is installed on volume1...

Any suggestions??

I have the 1812, but to my knowledge it's practically the same box. I recently had issues with my Plex setup and upon correcting them, I had the same "fail to run package services" you had. Here was my solution:

1) Uninstall Plex from Package Center
2) Reboot NAS
3) via SSH remove the "Plex" directory/folder
4) Manually install latest version of Plex (obtained from Plex's website)
5) Reboot NAS
6) Manually start service

Hi,

I have the same problem like above.
Since a few weeks unable to start Plex package in DSM (DSM 5.2-5592 Update 2) on Synology DS415+
Latest .spk package (version 0.9.12.8.1362-4601e39) downloaded from Plex website.
Manual installation on DSM goes fine, message says: "successfully installed"
When starting package it says "unable to run package"

Tried everything described in this thread above, without success, can someone pls help in this?

I had this issue too, turns out I accidentally locked out the plex user from the Plex folder. This was a result of an indirect action so please check those settings even you didn't explicitly do it.

Once I fixed that, it started normally again.

Hi, I've been happily using PMS on my Synology DS115j and tonight I go to upgrade and get the same error as the original poster.
I've tried the uninstall, restart, install, restart, manually run the app, but no joy.
Can someone explain the permissions thing with the plex folder, which folder exactly please? I am vaguely familiar with Putty and SSH.
