Plex Media Server package will no longer run on DS1812+

Unread post by Randomizer » Sun Jul 15, 2018 10:20 pm

Each time I try to run it I get: 'Failed to run the package service'. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling from package center and from Plex directly (I used the 64bit version) and restarting server. DSM is up to date.
The only hitch I had recently was an issue with my router (AirPort Extreme) that required me resetting. Somewhere along the line the Diskstation acquired a different IP address (I thought I had a static one set in DSM). I corrected and now it is using same IP ...although I wouldn't think that would have any effect on this.

So what you are saying atm is that Plex is not registering as running at all in Package Center? If so can you get access to its logs via ssh?

Log into you box via ssh and navigate to plex_home_folder/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs. There you can have a look into fresh logs and see if there are any more error indicating what might be the cause of it not starting up.

Start there. Worse case you can delete the folder (the one in @appstore as well) and start with a fresh copy of Plex. This will mean that you will have to crawl your entire lib again, but it will clear any trace of any previous instance.

Another solution would be to run plex inside Docker. Considering that the NAS has no support for hardware transcoding it might be worth putting it inside a container and isolating it from the rest of DSM (if its the cause of this problem).

Attempt to SSH landed me this:

The authenticity of host 'serverrrr.com ('ip addess')' can't be established.
ECDSA key fingerprint is 'long string of characters'
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?

I can navigate to server via Finder and can get into any of the folders except the Plex folder. Attempting to get in lands me this error:

The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “Plex” can’t be found.

Continue with yes. Also if you wanna try and access it via File Station then be sure to have read access to Plex folder with the user you are accessing with.

I had also issue after DSM update to 6.2.
I found the soltion here:
https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-media-ser ... 284519/156

In short: 32 bit Plex Server package misbehaves under 64 bit DSM system. To fix this:
* Uninstall Plex
* Download 64 bit package for Synology from here:
https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/
* Choose "Manual install" button in DSM.
* Enjoy :)

I had the same problem with Plex not starting on my DS415+ after upgrading to DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2.
Uninstalling Plex, downloading the 64 bit package from the Plex link in the msg above, and manually installing that package seems to have fixed the Plex issue.

Thanks!
