DDNS - Namecheap

Unread post by smee00 » Sun Jan 29, 2012 1:40 am

Hello Community,

I hope I am correct posting here.

I have a DDNS service at namecheap{dot}com 'https://www.namecheap.com/products/freedns.aspx'

How do I get the namecheap{dot}com DDNS API working with a DS1010?
I would really like to stop using my no-ip account in favour of this service, but the drop down menu doesn't feature my desired provider.

Can any one help?

Thanks

Hello,

I would also be interested on namecheap dyndns support.
One suggestion though:
As many other exotic dyndns providers are available out there it might be
interesting to just add a "custom" value with a free form http/https page.

For namecheap it would be the following:
https://dynamicdns.park-your-domain.com ... e]&domain=[domain.com]&password=[domain_password]

(taken from: http://www.namecheap.com/support/knowle ... e-hosts-ip).

Thanks,
Luca

DDNS Updater works with Namecheap

Go to package center, other sources, settings, package sources, add:

http://update.10trum.de/packageupdate/getpackages.php

Install DDNS Updater

Hello,

Thanks for the tip, it looks like this is what I was looking for.
One question though, I have installed the app but I do not see any icon/gui for it.
Is this normal?

Unfortunately I do not have remote ssh right now so I cannot play around with conf files ...

Thanks anyway
Luca

The app has been updated recently and I do not know of a bug where the icon is missing.
The DDNS Updater has a GUI.
It should be available where the control panel, file station, package center icons are.
Have you installed the required packages: Init_3rdparty 1.5?

The icon looks like this one on the official package page

Here is the German support forum for DDNS Updater

http://www.synology-forum.de/forumdispl ... NS-Updater

I am sure you could ask a question there if you are having trouble with the install.

I have only one suggestion, I do not know your experience level so excuse me if this does not help.

When you click the icon, top left, and the application icons appear, did you know that the icons are scrollable (up and down), and that there may be hidden icons out of view.

This may be why you cannot see an installed application immediately.

Hello,

Thanks for the suggestion but the list looks fine.
Just tried the same procedure in a different diskstation with same result :/
Both machines were running the very latest DSM before installing the app.

Thanks anyway for the support,
Luca

Okay, I was just checking for obscure out of the box solutions

Did you manage to get advice at the German support forum?
They will not bite if you post English, just explain first if your German is not up to scratch ;)

My application is installed at /usr/syno/synoman/webman/3rdparty/
located at /usr/syno/synoman/webman/3rdparty/ddnsupdater/config (is the file that is responsible for the application link)
contents of my config

Code: Select all

{
        ".url": {
                "SYNO.SDS._ThirdParty.App.ddnsupdater": {
                        "type": "legacy",
                        "allUsers": true,
                        "allowMultiInstance": false,
                        "grantPrivilege": "local",
                        "title": "app:app_name",
                        "desc": "app:app_desc",
                        "icon": "images/ddnsupdater_{0}.png",
                        "appWindow": "SYNO.SDS._ThirdParty.App.ddnsupdater",
                        "texts": "texts",
                        "width": 960,
                        "height": 550,
                        "url": "/webman/3rdparty/ddnsupdater/ddnsupdater.php"
                }
        }
}
hope this helps with solving the missing application link

If anyone else finds this thread and is trying to figure out why the DDns updater is not showing, check your user privs. It was not on by default and I was trying various things to figure out where it was installed, uninstalled & redid everything in proper orders only to then find I had not given myself permissions to use the DDNS updater.

Hello!

Thanks a lot!!!
Indeed the issue was that I was installing the application from an admin user but not the default admin.
The package installs fine but the user installing the app is not authorized to use it.

Thanks again,
Luca

Hello all,

I've been fiddling with DDNS Updater myself for a while before I finally got it to work correctly. Because this thread is the first hit on google for me when I was looking for answers I'll post my findings here for other people to find.

First you need to add the following repository to the package center

Package Center > Settings > Package Sources > Add

http://www.cphub.net/index.php/getpackages.php (The link mentioned earlier doesn't work anymore)

Then press the "Refresh" button to fetch the addons in the repository.

Install the following addons. In order

1. Perl
2. Init 3rdparty
3. DDNS Updater

Init 3rd party is a dependancy of DDNS Updater, but Perl is not. DDNS Updater won't work without Perl though.

After these steps DDNS Updater should work. enjoy. :)

I have DDNS Updater working with namecheap but it can only update one domain. I have 5 domains of which I would like it to update the A record IP address (assigned as www and @ for all 5 domains). When I try to enter a second @ or www for another domain it will not let me as it says another @ is in use.

Has anyone got this working for multiple domains on Namecheap?

@tuffcalc

If I understand, you have multiple domains at namecheap.
You need to set up 1 domain only in DDNS Updater
The rest you have to set up at Namecheap.

I think it was called URL redirect
@ | http://www.subsequent_domain_names.com/ | URL redirect
www | www.first_domain_name.com | CNAME (Alias)

You then set up the Virtual Host on your DS to point to the second domain folder

I have to go out now, see how you get on.
