Had 2 EARS failing in 3.1 (build 1742),just before upgrade, think was due to heat buildup, poor ventilation.
Possible the upgrade caused re-indexing which stressed the disk?
Also did you set the idle high using WDIDLE3 ?

Cheers
DS214 running DSM 6.0.1-7393-1
Two WD2002FAEX , formatted EXT4.
Back up important files to WD USB3 with 4TB WD drive inside formatted as EXT4.

I upgraded to 3.2 1944 and now disk 1 has crashed not an WD but a Samsung HD154UI 1,5TB.
Tests with the samsung hdd tool tell me nothing is wrong with the disk.
Reformated the disk and it is working again in the Synology...but I don't like this a bit.

Same problem here, but I don't if is related to the update (3.2 1944).
Anyway, on a DS1511+ after the upgrade 1 EARS disk (WD20EARS) failed, no way to repare it.
I've replaced it with and identical drive but, once connected to a pc, the previous one seems to work properly.
I'm worried by this so poor reliability..

A month ago I upgraded my DS-410 from 4 X Seagate 1.5 TB to 3 X WD 20EARX and still one Seagate 1.5 TB (no money for the fourth WD ...)

I used WDIDLE3 to set the timer to 5 minutes.

First I used a fix RAID 5 with 4 X Seagate 1.5 TB and after placing 2 X WD 20 EARX I used SHD. So I had to rebuild/restore the NAS completely. One week later I bougt a third WD 20 EARX. The RAID rebuild itself without any problems.

No problems what so ever yet :-)
