Hibernation is still a hit n miss with this Beta.. Sometimes it works.. sometimes it doesn't.. something wrong somewhere in this beta with regards to hibernation

My DX1211 hibernates fine, however on two occasions the volume came up degraded after waking up with DSM3.2b ... never had that issue with DSM3.1.

My DS211j NEVER goes to sleep (Lion)

Unread post by zinned » Sun Jul 31, 2011 3:06 pm

Hi guys,

I wonder if anyone else has the same issue as I do, my DS211j never goes to sleep! I had no issues at all under Snow Leopard but now when using it under Lion (with the latest DSM 3.2 beta) it never goes to sleep. The settings state that it should go to sleep after one hour of inactivity but it doesn't.

How can I solve this? Seems not to be a good idea för the hard drives to have it up and running 24/7.

I am also having same issue.. no hibernation on DS211j...

Even if the Mac is shut overnight, in the morning the LED is still ON.. I don't suppose the logs update on hibernation ON/OFF..

well.. hope this is fixed soon.. and a new BETA comes out .. can't wait for final.. too long .. btw when does it come??

Same problem here!

I've a DS210j and everything was running smoothly and fine with hibernation before the 3.2 beta ... :(

When using the former latest 3.1 version I had all media services turned on and the disks were perfectly going to sleep after 10 minutes without any problems.

Please fix that, Synology!

Thanks ... :)

Sleep Mode for drives in latest 3.2 Beta

Unread post by netsrac » Wed Aug 10, 2011 10:57 am

Hi Guys,

I do have a DS1010+. Before the update I never had any problems with the sleeps mode of the drives. Looks like the latest beta has broken something. Now my drives are spinning all the time.

Any idea how to debug this? There is nothing really special running on the DS. All just standard.

Thanks, Netsrac

i have the DS110j on previous diskstation everything worked fine.

yes i like 3.2 diskstation but BIGGEST issue is hibernate of disks aka sleep does not work as highlighted in previous posts.

i have not done any further testing such as switching off media station etc.

My disks keep spinning - so there no cost savings or power saving.

Synology dev crew - please address this this bug as soon as possible. i would like to continue testing 3.2 but without sleep / hibernation its going to be difficult.

Please fix sleep !!! thanks. i swear by Synology best NAS company ever!!!

The same here ! My DS211 does not hibernate !  This is for me the real only item that is really annoying me ! I hope that the final version will resolve this. I have reported it to Synology and they claim it is related to the ' MediaServer'. When media server is ON -> no hibernate, when media server is OFF -> it should hibernate.

With the previous version this was NOT the case ! :-( I think a patch for the people testing the BETA would be at its place at this moment !

Same for me... :? :? :?
Just migrate from Leopard to Mac OS X Lion and my DS1511+ to DSM3.2b for compatibility with Lion, ans now hibernation doesn't work anymore.... disks are spinning all of the time...
Hope to see a new beta soon.
Thanx.
Fred.

if you don't use the media server, turn it off if it is active, this will already help to make it sleep some, not perfectly but that helped in my case.

That is a bit difficult, if you have a NAS that is mainly used for streaming MP3   like it is in my case. I hope to get either a final release or a fix shortly !

hey all,

i switched off media server, for now and share my content via SMB shares to my dnla client (xbmc) as it supports smb and webdav.

anyway to confirm it is the media server that is causing the sleep issue.

You are using a Beta FW! If you cant live with problems, stay away of testing this kind of software!

Same problem here. At first I thought it was the thumbnails but it still does not hibernate. Can't stop the media server as this is the main reason I use the NAS. I also noticed the extra open ports the others mentioned. At least, Time Machine works again in Lion.
