Photo Station – Users cannot login

Postby Jaybird180 » Tue Mar 18, 2014 1:04 pm

I installed Photo Station and created a share folder for it. My admin account can use Photo Station (hereinafter referred to as PS) but my user account cannot – it doesn’t see any album content.

My user account can view the folder where the photos are located and also open them to view the files, but it seems to be an issue where the user account doesn’t have access to PS.

Under application permissions the installed packages are listed, and user accounts are given permission, but I noticed that PS is not in the list. I thought that perhaps something wasn’t installed correctly and sought to uninstall and reinstall PS, but cannot find the function to do that.

I am using DSM 5.0

I've got the exact same problem.
I've noticed the following details logged in as admin:

1. Control Panel -> User -> "click on the user" -> Applications
I can see File/Video/Audio station but not the Photo Station

2. Control Panel -> Privileges -> Local User -> "click on the user"
I can see all Applications (video/audio/ftp/file) but can't see Photo Station

3. Control Panel -> Application Portal
Again, i can see see all Applications: File/Audio/Video Station but can't see Photo Station

I opened a support ticket and hope they reply here to help us both and anyone else affected.

The release notes indicate a new version released today.

The release notes are not in chronological order, but it appears that our issue was addressed. I didn't get a response to my support ticket, I just happened to check.

Do you know how to install it?

I got it to work!

Steps:
1- Update PS
...download the package to a browsable location
...Choose Package Center>Manual Install
...Select the filename

2- Login via your admin account
...You will get a prompt that something has changed in the upper left corner of the screen>click it
3- Open PS>Settings>Groups (I didn't do this step 1st) but may work for you>check the box for their permissions (Browse, Upload, Manage) as you deem appropriate. I did this for each user, easy for me, as I have only a small number.

Let me know if this works for you.

Hi!

Thanks a lot! It did somehow work.
My users can now finally log in and see the albums.

However, the photo station is still not "registering" itself as application.
e.g. for port forwarding, path redirections, application restriction.

I just noticed that the user creation wizard has an applications permission area and photostation is not on the list.
Any idea why??

I've been emailing them back and forth and they only waste time. it's like they have no technical experience.
I bet they have VCRs still flashing 12:00.

The phone hold times are 45 min plus. and then you get to talk to someone who only tells you to make a ticket after they confirm what you already told them is the case. It' a sad sad sad waste of time. I'm going to focus on Thecus now I think. Anyone have any better Ideas?

What do you mean 'somehow'. Like what steps did you take? I can't even start photo station. I log into DSM from my browser and the application won't start. I get...

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, admin and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Thank you

No word from Tech Support as of yet. Yesterday I updated to DSM 5.0 Update 1 hoping that it was not listed in the 'readme' yet corrected. No joy.
