Symbolic links

Postby xylem » Sun Jul 24, 2016 9:32 pm

hi,

I wanr DS Photo to index a folder outside the default /photo so I've created a symbolic link to that external folder. The index shows the folder but it is empty. Any other way to get an external folder indexed?

I have that setup in Indexing service, but the images do not show up in Photo Station.

I don't think you'll see photos outside the photo folder in Photo Station. It says explicitly in Control Panel -> Indexing Service, under Media Indexing that PS won't add images outside of the photo folder. I quote:

"Please note that only the image files under the shared folder "/photo" will be added to Photo Station after being indexed."

Is there a way to change that default folder?

Not as far as I know but you're not the only one to want to do this. Maybe worth a feature request or at least asking Syno support why it's so rigid in its photo setup.

For anyone interested, I've found the workaround:

mount --bind /volume1/folder1/folder2 /volume1/photo

Folder2 is properly indexed by DS Photo.
Put that line in /etc/rc.local to get it mounted with every reboot.

can you please explain how to put the command in rc.local. I'm searching for how to work with the editor.

Also, as I understand from https://github.com/Entware-ng/Entware-ng/issues/645, "As of DSM 6 (I think; not exactly sure when this changed), /etc/rc.local is no longer executed during startup"....and therefore

"The simplest workaround on recent versions of DSM 6 is to use the Task Scheduler to create a triggered task (running on boot-up) that does the mounting. I have tested this personally and it works fine. See https://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?t=116174 for more discussion on the issue."

Can anyone comment on this, and provide instruction? Thank you.

- Enable SSH in Control Panel.
- Use WinSCP or similar to log in.
- Create/edit rc.local in /etc
- You may need root access so follow these instructions:
