photo permissions

Postby wanderley » Sat Jan 06, 2018 3:03 am

I moved the /photo directory from amsynology to a new one.

1. I see all my photo folders with permissions set to owner <some username> and group PhotoStation. Weird cause there is no apparent PhotoStation group. Only admin, users, and http.

2. I logged in to PhotoStation as admin and set User Accounts to DSM Acccounts but when I go to DSM control panel and Users the photo directory folder is greyed out. I cannot assign any permissions from DSM. Yet it simply inherents group permissions. It says group permission and preview as read and write. Not sure why couldn’t I remove access from an admin user or explicitly assign one to it or another user.

3. I have a task that creates and renames images uploaded by ds photo app. This creates a year folder in photo directory. That folder is owed by <some username> And group users. Yet I cannot see the new folder in PhotoStation.

Any ideas how to fix these permissions? PhotoStation group does not seem right. Not sure anymore what to do with PhotoStation folders to fix permissions and have all folders in it shown properly.

For 2, what you describe matches my set-up.

All /photo share permissions are now handled through the Photo Station web GUI, regardless of whether you're using DSM accounts or Photo Station accounts. I think it changed some time in 2017 but can't find any evidence of that in the release notes.

A number of people are unhappy about it.

I can only recommend to contact Synology for 3.

I found that re-indexing the photos folder makes my photos appear now.
