Do you mean, that the user/password should be a part of the shortcut?

File Station on DSM3 desktop - bug?

Postby AlleyKat » Tue Oct 19, 2010 1:07 am

Hi, I run a system with FileStation enabled, but have a strange issue - or am reporting a small bug.

For the "admin" user, I have an icon for File Station on the DSM 3.0 desktop under the arrow menu box (and it works fine). I can drag it out onto the desktop to have a quick shortcut to a new browser tab with FS, etc.

For any other user, this icon is missing. The other users do have FS access, and manually entering the address to the FileStation I can log in with their credentials.

This seems to be an issue with the File Station icon alone - the Download Station and Audio Station icons shows up just fine. I haven't tested for the Surveillance Station or the Photo Station icons, however.

Is there a "quick'n'dirty" solution to this? Or just wait for next FW update?

Off-topic, where/to whom do I report errors in translation? The danish translation is quite complete and of good quality, but does have a number of typos and strange translations that could/should be fixed.

System: DS107+, DSM 3.0-1337
DS212+ [DSM 4.2 b2302]
Putty for SSH CLI. Must-have nerd hack stuff like ipkg, man, mc and wget-ssl.
Awesome custom AWStats 7.0, custom phpMyAdmin & more.
Running small, hobby websites on it, and some services enabled.

In short, cool device. You need one of these.

Greetings AlleyKat,

The technician has log the request, and further research is on pursuit.
Hopefully, it'll be fixed by the follow-up release.

BTW, you may report the translation errors via Support Form.

Thank you.

Hi antoiney,

thanks for merging my report with this thread, and for the answer. Much appreciated.

itari > Thanks for the explanation, I modified the config and got my FS icon on the other accounts. Very nice.

Hehe ok sry, thanks HarryPotter!

May be slightly offtopic, but is there a JSON 'pretty format' editor (CLI or DSM desktop) available?

So far I've just used the builtin one in MC (easier than VI, PICO etc). Hmm, I guess I could just do something like itari's CronJob in PHP ofcourse...

Service information for those wanting to edit the JSON config file 'easier':

http://www.jsonpad.co.cc/ - is an Adobe AIR-based JSON editor (pretty nice, and AIR is available for windows, mac and linux) -- enables you to edit the file on your desktop.

http://www.thomasfrank.se/json_editor.html - webbased editor for integration into a page. Maybe itari could add this to his awesome admin tool? Or when I find time, I might make a small DSM-desktop-tool for it...

There is no need for a json editor. There are only some json-configuration files, and in every editor there is 'substitution' build in ... so beautify yourself, lazy folks. :D
