I'm wondering if in fact that is the root cause of the issue, is it that synology is failing to wake up the drives when access via samba, but it does wake up the drive is accessed via file station

is enabling this just a red-herring - is the real fix the fact that it disables hibernating the drive?

Hi,

As mentioned have the setting enabled.
BUT disks still seem to hibernate, at least one of them as far as I can hear. (use them as 2 independent volumes).
I wonder of enabling the GUEST account (used for browsing as far as I am aware) is the magic trick.

Cheers

I explain on another post the same problem with a 210j after upgrade to 1337.
No acces to the share : nothing with windows or from the web
nor with \\IP:5000 etc etc or \\mydomain name....

I had "only" 250 Go of pictures on my nas, so I format the two disks and I re-installed DSM with 1337 and of course directly, without upgrade.

And now all works fine.

But with more datas possibly lost it would be another problem .....

Marc.

Hi,

Might try the re-install.
But looks to me there are two different set of symptoms.

1. No access at all
2. Web access works but SMB access drops, share can not be found.

Cheers

Agreed, I think one is synology network settings screwing up

The other is samba crashing

I applied the samba patch and it didn't help. Over the last week of trail and error, I also came to the same conclusion that it's related to the hibernation of the drives. In fact, even when they all wake up, it's the first write to the drive that seems to freeze the unit (without performing a read first). Performing a large read on a drive, and then a copy seems works (after the unit comes out of hibernation.) I've sent a few kernel logs to Synology support and they think they see something in the log. I'll be updating support on Monday, as I will be experimenting again this weekend (unfortunately, everytime I freeze the unit, it takes up to 20 mins. to come back up - 4 x 2TB drives takes a while to check. :( )

I am still having the problem. it seems to be isolated to when I copy large files to the unit right after the unit (or drive) first comes out of hibernation. Support is looking at the issue.

1354 is supposed to fix the freezing. I am leery about applying it though, as other messages on the board indicate that it breaks file browser (and who knows what else).
