Which DS2xx should I buy for media streaming?

Unread post by Szi » Thu Feb 01, 2018 2:05 pm

Hi i have a old ds in the basement which i use as backup in raid mode.

Now i want to buy a new ds2xxx nas for media streaming.

I have the following files:

- images in jpeg
- videos in
--> m2ts (Avchd)
--> mpg files
--> vob file ( i think this is mpeg as well) from VIDEO_TS
--> avi

Which ds2xx do you recommend? Based on the question:
Using own ds2xx hardware media server or using sw like plex, serviio?
Ds218, ds218play, ds218+ ?

2nd : which of those 3 ds2xx supports plex ?

Is synology able to do video file stacking?
Means: a movie folder consits of many m2ts files which the media player should play automatically in the right order. I do not want tp click every m2ts file of a movie for playing.

Appreciate a feedback

Thanks
Steffen

DS Video doesn't handle that well. The best you can hope for is creating a playlist and having gaps between each file. IIRC, Plex may be able to provide a more seamless transition.

Otherwise, this may provide some comparative info about the models sets. If you're needing on-the-fly transcoding, don't skimp on the processor.

Thanks.
What does " don't skimp on the processor." Mean for you.
Arm or intel? So ds218play vs. Ds218+?
More important than ram?

Can you pls be more precise?

Thanks

The Knowledge Base resources address transcoding capability between units for 4k, as well as sub-4k needs. That should point you to the best unit match for your streaming requirements.
