Browsing for music

Unread post by ejhh » Tue Dec 19, 2017 3:47 pm

I recently bought a DS115j and have had it up and running for 5 days now but I'm sorry to say and am EXTREMELY disappointed with it.
I've been using two network servers (Buffalo) for over ten years and the Synology stuff is so mega complicated to use.
I won't go into everything now but the big deal breaker is....

When I browse for music from a client it seems to go straight from GENRE->TRACK.
However, I want to browse via GENRE->ARTIST->ALBUM->TRACK

How do I configure this. I have around 2000 tracks in my classical collection alone so I need to browse via artist and album.

If I can't do this then the box has to go back to Amazon.

thanks

Which client are you using? There are heaps of ways to stream audio, you're not limited to Synology's client.

Also, when I try this on the Synology live demo it works exactly the way you want, which makes me think that maybe your ID3 tags are missing/incorrect...

Thanks for the reply.
I have around 9000 tracks in my music library which has been built with iTunes.
I use iTunes to 1)rip cd's, 2) fill in the artist/genre/track etc info, and 3) to embed artwork.

When I put these 9000 tracks on my Buffalo DLNA NAS (it uses Twonky) all of this info is used.

For clients, I've tried my old Philips NP1100 media streamer, Revo iBlik, Roberts radio, various apps on my phone, my smart TV etc.
(It does work fine on Audio Station but I don't want or can't use that app)
When I inspect the properties of the mp3 files I see all the info is there.

I don't understand why it's so easy on Buffalo/Twonky but so difficult with Synology.

thanks

Sorry, one more thing..
I notice a moderator has moved this query to the Audio Station Application
but...
I don't want to use Audio Station (or my media streamer can't use it).

I have now heard from Synology technical support that it is not possible to browse Genre->Artist->Album->Track unless you use their proprietary Audiostation...... which I can't use on media streaming clients.

THIS IS STAGGERING and should be made clear in the sales literature.
I've wasted a week trying to sort this out.
Now returning the unit to amazon.
