MKV won't start on ds216play > XMBC Raspberry pi > Samsung tv

Postby Mirrorguardian » Fri Aug 12, 2016 1:10 pm

Currently installing my new ds216play and loving it.
But, just as some other people, I came to realise a little bit too late that my old Samsung TV does not support the DS Video app of synology. So to connect my tv to my nas i'm using a raspberry pi with XMBC (as a temporarly solution untill I buy a new tv).
This is working fine and all, but it won't play MKV files (without any error message).
The raspberry pi didn't have any problems playing mkv files in the past. So I think the communication between the RP and the NAS is failing?
Where should I start looking for fixing this problem?

My setup: NAS dsplay216 > Raspberry Pi with XMBC > Old Samsung smart tv.

Anybody got any experience with this?

Use Samba access instead of Media Server option.
I can't tell how is called in your Raspberry software because there's no naming standard.
Idea is Kodi can decode MKVs all by itself and there's no need for Media Server capabilities on Synology as this can screw up basic functionality - it's just another layer that can cause troubles.

Thank you for your reply. I removed .mkv from the media server in the decoding settings and now it's working fine!

I have my music and video shares, shared via nfs. This way it is also possible to play iso files with xbmc
